Bundesliga: Dortmund vs Hoffenheim Player Ratings as Dortmund back to winning ways in a dramatic way
Bundesliga: Dortmund vs Hoffenheim
Here are the Player Ratings for the Bundesliga fixture between Dortmund and Hoffenheim.
After a terrific season in 2020 where they finished third, Dortmund have started in a decent fashion, winning two of their first three games. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, had finished 11th last year and had a decent first couple of games game to start off, tasted their first defeat this season.
Though Dortmund dominated the first half and created several chances, the first half remained goal-less. Dortmund hit 10 shots on target as compared to 2 by Hoffenheim, with Guerriero being the pick of the players for Dortmund in the first half. The Hoffenheim goalkeeper was terrific in the first half blocking the Dortmund attack multiple times.
Dortmund’s relentless attack continued in the second half and it was a matter of time before they put one in the nets. As expected, Dortmund scored in the fourth minute after the break as Reyna’s shot hit the bottom right corners of the nets. However, a lapse in the home side’s defence saw Hoffenheim’s Baumgartner score the equaliser in the 61st minute in a superb build up. Within 10 minutes of the equaliser, Dortmund took the lead with a terrific shot from Bellingham.
The real drama was saved till the final 5 minutes as Dabbur scored off a corner to level the score at 2-2 in the 90th minute. And Dortmund took the lead yet again a minute later, making it 3-2 for the home side.
Let us quickly dive into how the players of both teams performed:
Dortmund
Gregor Kobel (GK) (5.5/10): Kobel had an average game where he conceded 2 goals. He was caught off-guard a number of times but was shielded by the terrific defence.
Thomas Meunier (7.5/10): The Dortmund defender had a decent outing as he and his fellow defenders managed to keep the opposition at bay for most parts of the game except for a few minutes in the second half. Meunier made 4 successful aerial duels.
Manuel Akanji (7.5/10): Akanji had a good game and managed to block the opposition attack from creating enough chances. He had a superb impact on the game, with a 100% passing accuracy in the final third and also made 2 very good interceptions.
Raphael Guerreiro (8.5/10): Guerreiro kept on creating chances throughout the game. The Portugese midfielder created as many as 4 chances and hit 3 good crosses. Overall, he had a very good game for the home team.
Axel Witsel (7/10): Witsel had a decent game as he played a key role in the defence keeping the Hoffenheim attack from converting their chances. The Belgian international made 4 successful aerial duels and had good passing accuracy.
Mahmoud Dahoud (6/10): Dahoud had a rather quiet game and did not have much impact on the game.
Giovanni Reyna (9/10): Reyna managed to open the scoring for the home side in the second half after they missed out on a number of chances in the first half despite continuous attacks. He had 2 shots on target and also a passing accuracy of 89% in the final third.
Jude Bellingham (9.5/10): It was a near perfect game for Bellingham with goal and an assist. The Dortmund midfielder also created a couple of chances. He got injured in the 71st minute, but he had done a very good job till then, contributing in both the goals for his side.
Marco Reus (7.5/10): Marco Reus had a good game where he constantly penetrated into the Hoffenheim defence. Reus made 3 successful tackles and put in 3 good crosses. Though he could not put his name on the scoresheet, Reus was never out of contention from scoring in the game.
Donyell Malen (6/10): Malen would have loved to make some more impact in the game, but the Dutch striker had an average outing where he did not have much impact.
Erling Haaland (6.5/10): Dortmund’s goal-scoring machine had a rather quite game where he looked a pale shadow of himself as he bottled up a couple of chances. However, Haaland finally managed to put one in the nets in a tricky situation and gave his side the lead in the 91st minute.
Hoffenheim
Oliver Baumann (GK) (8.5/10): Baumann was having a great game, especially in the first half where he made a number of impressive saves. The second half saw Dortmund converting better. Overall, a good outing for the Hoffenheim goal-keeper who would want his defenders to do better.
Kevin Akpoguma (3/10): The Hoffenheim defender was found wanting when it came to contain the Dortmund attack. Except for the 3 good tackles, Akpoguma had little to show in this game.
Kevin Vogt (3/10): Vogt, just like the whole of Hoffenheim defence, looked clueless against the relentless Dortmund attack.
Stephan Pousch (2.5/10): Pousch had a below par game as he and his fellow defenders failed to block the Dortmund forward for almost the entire duration of the game.
David Raum (3.5/10): Raum had a quiet game and could not make much of the ball he got in the midfield except for the 3 crosses.
Dennis Geiger (7/10): Geiger had a decent game where he created a couple of chances and assisted a goal for his side. Geiger kept the midfield game alive for the away side and made sure Hoffenheim stayed in the contest till the very end.
Sebastian Rudy (4/10): The midfielder Rudy failed to create much impact in the game and had an average outing, which he will definitely like to improve in the coming games.
Christoph Baumgartner (8/10): The Austrian striker opened the scoring for Hoffenheim, levelling the scores at 1-1 in the 61st minute. He had 2 shots on target and also made a couple of crucial interceptions and blocks.
Angelo Stiller (5/10): Stiller had a quiet game where he did not create much impact and was substituted in the half time.
Andrej Kramaric (8/10): The Croatian international had a good game as he managed to penetrate into the Dortmund defence several times, but would have loved to have a bit more support from the midfield.
Jacob Bruun Larsen (6/10): The Danish striker had an average game. He had a good passing accuracy (91%) in the final third, which is the second best in the game, but did not manage to create any chances for his side to put the ball in the nets.
Substitutes:
Mu’nas Dabbur (9/10): The Israeli international made an impact almost immediately with a goal in the 90th minute as his goal levelled the scores at 2-2. He managed to be at the right position in what was a beautiful corner shot.
