Rb Leipzig gave a tough fight to Wolfsburg but couldn’t get themselves over the line. Let’s take a look at how the players performance for their respective teams.
Wolfsburg
Koen Casteels (GK) (7.4/10) : A brilliant day for Koen with the gloves. He made an exceptional saves inside the box and claimed a high incoming ball alongside two other saves. He kept the defence intact and thus claimed the cleansheet.
Kevin Mbabu (6.6/10) : As compared to other defenders, Kevin had a very decent game. He did make good clearances to keep the ball away but kept struggling at ground duels. He found it very difficult to make the long pass.
Maxence Lacroix (7.2/10) : Maxence did a commendable job defending and coordinated brilliantly with Koen. He made as many as eight clearances and blocked a potential shot at goal. These contributions proved to be very effective for Wolfsburg.
John Brooks (7.2/10) : A solid performance by John Brooks. He was very quick with his feet. He made two really good tackles and also won all the ground challenges he crossed paths with.
Jérôme Roussillon (7.4/10) : Roussillon scored the opening and only goal of the match as Wolfsburg bag three points and move to the top of the table. It was a brilliant goal by the defender who showed a lot of determination when it came to moving the ball forward.
Xaver Schlager (6.5/10) : Xaver played for 70 minutes before getting subbed. He had a shy at goal and made a good attempt to score but was off target.
Maximilian Arnold (7/10) : Arnold was one of the key players for Wolfsburg and has a dominant personality. Due to being a good controller of the ball, he was fouled on five occasions to win the ball from. He did have one of his shots blocked in the Leipzig defence.
Ridle Baku (6.5/10) : Ridle Baku did a decent job but seemed to be less confident at keeping control of the ball. He did have a goal scoring opportunity and was on target too. However, he was denied by the keeper. He came in yet again with another shot with was cleared by the defence.
Maximilian Philipp (6.3/10) : It was a tough day for Philipp as he faced multiple failures at winning ground or Ariel challenges. He failed at every Ariel challenge and lost possession numerous times.
Renato Steffen (6.7/10) : A decent game for Renato as he barely got any chances to have a go at goal. He did have a good ball which was steered away by the opposing defence.
Wout Weghorst (6.5/10) : Wout too missed out on getting any goal scoring chances which certainly would’ve been very frustrating. However, he did have a shy at goal but was off target.
Substitutes
Joshua Guilavogui (6.6/10) : Joshua had twenty minutes on the clock and he gave his all in for that. He won as many ground duels as possible while making good tackles and valuable clearances.
Lukas Nmecha (6.3/10) : A decent substation for Wolfsburg but Lukas didn’t contribute much. He seemed off shape as he lost the bare minimum challenges he got to face against Rb Leipzig.
Omar Marmoush (6.6/10) : Omar managed to get nine minutes on the field and did all he could to make a vital contribution. He came across a good ariel challenge which he won to maintain possession.
Rb Leipzig
Péter Gulácsi (6.1/10) : Not the best performance by Péter. Despite making a couple of good saves, he was outfoxed by Roussillon to concede a goal which cost Rb Leipzig as many as 3 points.
Lukas Klostermann (6.8/10) : Lukas did a decent job at keeping the ball away from the box by making four valuable clearances and winning a couple of interceptions. He also had a go at goal but was clearly off target. An unlucky miss.
Willi Orbán (7/10) : Willi was one of the most active defenders in the field. Apart from doing a decent job with tackles and clearances, he had two attempts at goal and both were off target. He had a big opportunity missed which could have helped Leipzig clinch a draw.
Mohamed Simakan (7.6/10) : Undoubtedly the best defender and the best player for Leipzig on the field. He had seven successful tackles while winning three interceptions. He was really good with his feet and showed an exceptional performance with rapid pace.
Joško Gvardiol (6.5/10) : A decent game for the defender. Although, he lost possession on multiple occasions which was a spoiler. He too struggled at winning the ball from Wolfsburg forwards.
Tyler Adams (6.5/10) :
Amadou Haidara (6.2/10) : Amadou played for 59 minutes before being called in and subbed. He had a good chance at goal but was way off target. A tough chance but could’ve been converted if dealt nicely.
Dominik Szoboszlai (6.2/10) : A very poor game performance by Dominik as he barely won any ground duels and gave away possession on every occasion he had the ball with him.
Emil Forsberg (6.7/10) : Emil dealt with pressure nicely and found a good gap between the defenders to make it inside the box of Wolfsburg. Emil did have two chances at goal but was off target on both occasions.
Christopher Nkunku (7.1/10) : One of the better players for Leipzig as he won almost every ground duel challenges. He also had a good chance at goal but was denied by the keeper.
André Silva (6.5/10) : It couldn’t have gotten any worse for Silva as he was awarded with a big chance for Leipzig that could’ve set the tone of the game. However, he missed being on target.
Substitutes
Konrad Laimar (6.3/10) : A disappointing 31 minutes as Konrad barely won any duels he came across against Wolfsburg players.
Yussuf Poulsen (6.5/10) : Yussuf did a decent job at winning ariel and ground duels and looked good with his pace and dribbling skills.
Kevin Kampl (6.6/10) : Kevin managed to get himself eleven minutes on the clock and also was storming into the Wolfsburg defence only to have his shots blocked in defence.
Brian Brobbey (6.7/10) : Brian too got as many as eleven minutes to play and in that he just got nine touches to play with. He did seem sloppy as he lost possession twice in that time.
