‘It is a fun fight and this is entertainment and this is fighting’ – Dustin Poirier open to fighting Nate Diaz
Dustin Poirier has revealed that he is open to fighting Nate Diaz, although the fight doesn’t make sense in the lightweight division. Dustin Poirier is all the rage right now, after he became the first man to ‘finish’ Conor McGregor, at the recently concluded UFC 257. A truckload of fighters seem to be next in line to face the ‘Diamond’.
Speaking in Ariel Helwani’s MMA show on ESPN MMA, Dustin Poirier had nothing but respect for the ‘Stockton Slugger’, as he revealed that he was a guy who he (Dustin) grew up watching. He further said that it would be an entertaining fight, although the fight doesn’t make sense ‘ranking wise’!
‘Those are the kind of fights I want to be part of‘ – Dustin Poirier
Dustin Poirier was quoted as saying, “It is exciting, it is fun. Those are the kind of fights I want to be part of. Fights that are exciting to me and that I’m motivated to get up and bust my ass every day. That is exciting. That is a guy I grew up watching, a guy who is still a very big name, that’s it.” [via BJPenn.com]
He continued, “I think the fans would be in for a great fight if that one happens. Does it make sense in the lightweight division? No. Does it make sense where I am at, standing in the door front of a title shot? No. But, it is a fun fight and this is entertainment and this is fighting.” [via BJPenn.com]
Poirier is coming off ‘that’ knockout win over Conor McGregor at the recently concluded UFC 257. The win propelled him to number 1 in the lightweight division rankings. Nate Diaz, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since his TKO (Doctor Stoppage) loss to Jorge Masvidal, way back in November 2019.
