Caitlin Clark missed her 15th game this season. That is confirmation that her groin injury is still on the mend and needs more time to heal before she can return to playing basketball regularly.
This 3rd stretch has been the most pivotal, as fans have asked the Indiana Fever to take it easy this time. Some believe the 23-year-old should be shut down for the season, but considering how competitive she is, there is zero chance of that happening.
Now, as she waits for Fever trainers to give her the green light, she is usually sitting on the bench, cheering her teammates and yelling at officials. During the game, cameras panned to Sophie Cunningham telling something to Clark with her towel covering her mouth.
The idea was to keep the conversation a secret, knowing there are enough ‘expert’ lip readers out there waiting to dissect what was being said. The 23-year-old listened intently and replied:
Yup, I know. She hates me.
Caitlin Clark apparently said
This was what one lip-reading ‘expert’ figured out watching the way her mouth moved. Since the word ‘hate’ was involved with Caitlin Clark, this video was bound to go viral.

There may not be enough instances of ‘hate’ towards her this season, as she has missed most of the games. Moreover, other than the usual physicality, nothing else has been directed towards her.
Maybe that’s why the moment this clip was posted, it quickly caught the attention of basketball fans. They wondered what the two were actually discussing, and what prompted the Iowa native to respond.
Fans try to dissect what Caitlin Clark said
Basketball fans were quick to realize that Caitlin Clark might not have said the exact words that formed the caption of this video. But they were curious as to what was being said. Sophie Cunningham covering her mouth while speaking was enough to raise curiosity.
Then, for the reigning Rookie of the Year to respond in that stone-cold manner again brought up questions. Clark is generally either animated or having a great time on the bench. This serious demeanor was quite unlike her. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Just gossip as usual

It might just be standard gossip between two close teammates. It could also be a discussion regarding something about officials, the league, or even their opponents for the night. Fans have taken interest in what she is saying off-camera.
Similar question marks flooded social media when Caitlin Clark’s words seemed to stun Gabby Williams, Jackie Young, and Sonia Citron at the All-Star game. Since her face was away from the camera, no one could even try to use their lip-reading skills.
Caitlin Clark’s Fever climbs to 5th in standings
All of this happened when the Indiana Fever were battling the Dallas Wings. This was the first of their 4-game road trip, with a trip to the West. They had been on a three-game winning streak and hoped the momentum would continue.

It did, as the away team took control of the game in the 2nd quarter, and never looked back. They won the game 88-78. More importantly, this run of form coincided with a move up a spot on the league table.
A double-overtime loss for the Seattle Storm saw them drop a spot, handing the Indiana Fever the 5th spot. If this form continues, there is a chance that the team could wind up in 2nd spot before the end of the month.
Remarkably, the team has found this form even though Caitlin Clark is not a part of it. This should likely help the team in the closing stretch, when they can ease their playmaker back into the fold without losing playoff seeding.
