The WNBA has got a golden opportunity to become a mainstream major sports league in the USA. The advent of Caitlin Clark and her wildly entertaining style of play as a point guard has opened up a new and ever growing cohort of basketball fans among young men, women and children. Her exciting style of play and her immaculate passing makes basketball a really fun experience, even for casual fans who don’t know much.
The former Iowa sensation had already caused a huge uptick in interest in women’s basketball with her 40-point triple-double against Hailey van Lith and Louisville in the NCAA tournament Elite Eight in 2023. The tournament final was viewed by almost 10 million viewers, who saw Angel Reese dominate the Iowa frontcourt and take home Most Outstanding Player honors and infamously taunt Caitlin Clark on the way.
NCAA Women’s basketball had an upsurge in interest the following year as fans followed Iowa’s march to yet another tournament final with Clark leading the way. It benefited the likes of Reese, Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins hugely in 2023-24 as many of their games also had hitherto unseen viewership. And since her advent to the WNBA, the league has reaped the rich benefits of her massive fan base.
The WNBA is now a mainstream league which is discussed on sports talk shows regularly. Old people tune in to games during the summer, a highly convenient time for the sports calendar. And girls across the world have started idolizing Caitlin Clark, who has been magnanimous and an impeccable ambassador. Her philanthropic endeavor led her to do a backpack giveaway in Indianapolis recently.
Indianapolis Public Schools superintendent Aleesia Johnson was overjoyed by her presence and gave her earnest thanks with an Instagram post, where she stated:
Yesterday’s backpack giveaway with Caitlin Clark was incredible! She and her team were amazing partners, and I’m so thankful! And, let me just say, this picture of me handing out a backpack? It represents the SINGLE student who actually took a backpack I was offering versus one Caitlin was offering. They wanted those backpacks from Caitlin’s hands ONLY ! Such an awesome event! Thank you to Eli Lilly Co, Scholastic, and the Caitlin Clark Foundation!

There is no return timetable for Caitlin Clark on her groin injury
Caitlin Clark has had a 2025 season from hell, having to deal with constant injury niggles. She has only played in 13 of the Indiana Fever’s 26 games this season. She missed the All-Star game and 3-point shootout at Indianapolis due to her groin injury, which she suffered in the final moments of their physical faceoff against the Connecticut Sun a couple of days before the All-Star Weekend.

Though sidelined, captain Caitlin Clark turned up in great spirits for the All-Star weekend festivities and was a great cheerleader for her teammates from the sidelines, even though they lost to Team Collier by a 20 point margin in the exhibition game. Clark was also the life of the party at the WNBA celebrations over the weekend off the court, and had an important role in their CBA negotiations with Cathy Engelbert.
The Indiana Fever have not provided any concrete timeline for her return from her latest injury. This is Clark’s third injury-enforced absence of the 2025 WNBA season, having already missed two 5-game spells before her latest absence.
