The 2025 WNBA season has seen all MVP candidates, including Caitlin Clark, off to a great start. The New York Liberty are 3-0 and have beaten the Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever. Napheesa Collier and her Minnesota Lynx are 4-0 and looking primed to return to the WNBA Finals based on this season’s action. There are a lot of interesting storylines taking place across the league as teams try to up their chances.

Caitlin Clark has the biggest fan base in modern basketball among active players today. Her play has been worth the hype so far this season. She is off to a flashy start, averaging 19 points and 9.3 assists per game. Clark had an imperious first game of the season, recording a 20-point triple-double vs Chicago Sky. The Fever have only lost two games by a combined three points and could have been 4-0 thus far.

She followed this performance up with a 27 points, 11 assists outing against Atlanta at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever were roundly criticized for losing this game and for failing to get Caitlin Clark the ball on the last possession. They did better in the reverse fixture with Atlanta, managing a 81-76 revenge win. However, spotty refereeing denied Clark a clear foul call in their game against the New York Liberty.

According to the latest odds, Clark is a -105 favorite to win the WNBA MVP award. This means she is even being favored over the rest of the field combined by the betting markets. While these odds could seem surreal and illogical, betting markets are always shifted by volumes.

The Indiana Fever- Chicago Sky matchup saw ESPN record its most-viewed WNBA game ever, averaging 2.5 million viewers. By contrast, the game between the last two championship teams Las Vegas and New York had 1.13 million viewers. So it is clear that there are more Caitlin Clark fans paying attention to the WNBA than there are for other players. This is also the reason why the betting odds are skewed to favor her, in order for the sportsbooks to payout lower margins if she wins.

Napheesa Collier will be the main MVP hurdle for Caitlin Clark

Judging from the first few weeks of play, Clark is undoubtedly on pace to retain her First Team All-WNBA slot. However, the likes of A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart have all shown that they’re still the de facto best players in the league. A’ja Wilson leads the Las Vegas Aces in all five major statistical categories so far this season. She might have to continue carrying the team this season, at this rate.

The Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty are both unbeaten at this point in the season. Napheesa Collier has the better stats thus far, averaging a WNBA-leading 29.5 points per game. The team looks primed to repeat its Finals run from last season, much like Breanna Stewart and co.

If Collier continues to score at this pace, it would be extremely hard for WNBA media not to vote her as MVP. She has a lot of things going in her favor. A Finals run with a DPOY season, followed up by a jump in scoring, would make for a great MVP case. The only question would be whether the Minnesota Lynx win enough games to guarantee a higher seeding that the Indiana Fever, which looks likely at this point.
