The Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark has taken the WNBA by storm in her debut season as a rookie, breaking and setting new records in her rookie season. Notably, Clark is also in the running for the 2024 Rookie Of The Year Award alongside the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese. Recently, Clark added another huge milestone to her record-breaking 2024.
In the Fever’s most recent match against the Seattle Storm, Clark broke the WNBA single-season rookie mark for assists. Clark, who tops the WNBA in assists at 8.3 per game, had nine on Sunday to reach 232 assists, breaking Ticha Penicheiro‘s rookie record of 224 established in 1998. This gathered widespread attention from the basketball community.
Basketball fans around the world commended Clark on social media for setting a new rookie assist record. In addition, one fan made a bold claim on X, calling her to be the GOAT by 3rd year. The fan wrote on X, “She’ll go down as the GOAT by her third year.” Despite her recent success, Clark and the Fever still have a lot to do this WNBA season.
On the other hand, Penicheiro was the Sacramento Monarchs’ No. 2 pick in 1998, and the team is no longer in the WNBA. She helped the Monarchs win the 2005 league championship and concluded her career with 2,600 assists, the third most in WNBA history. Hence, for Clark to break her record comes as a huge feat in her career, especially in her rookie season.
