Caitlin Clark's trading card sold more than that of tennis legend Serena Williams

When it comes to women’s sports, Serena Williams is one of the most accomplished and respected athletes out there. But it has been nearly three years since she retired and since then, WNBA star Caitlin Clark has become the most popular female athlete.

The Indiana Fever guard has been a superstar since he collegiate years. But in her rookie WNBA season, she has pushed the boundaries when it comes to drawing fans and routinely played to packed out arenas. Her games also saw a million people or more viewing from their homes.

But it was not just her fame, in fact her play added on to that fandom. She won the Rookie of the Year award and also found herself in the All-NBA 1st team as well as final MVP ladder. All those accomplishments along with those from her college days has had an impact on merchandise.

Caitlin Clark rookie trading cards soon became the hottest property on the market and fans and celebrities spent a lot of money to get their hands on some of the rare ones. For instance, Clark’s 2024 Panini Select WNBA Gold Vinyl autograph rookie card sold for $234K back in December.

Now, it has been upstaged by her 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Gold Vinyl 1/1 autograph rookie card. It sold for $366,000 at a Goldin auction. That became the most expensive card ever for a female athlete, beating Serena Williams’ 2003 NetPro autograph patch card.

Serena Williams’ husband has high praise for Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark might have breezed past Serena Williams in terms of trading card prices, but there is no denying that Clark looks up to the tennis legend. Earlier today, the Indiana Fever star met and spent time with the 23-time grand slam champion. Williams’ husband, Alex Ohanian wrote this after meeting Clark.

Finally met the one and only Caitlin Clark IRL (impressive young woman off the court as well)! Great hosting, Melody, and all-star panel from CC, my friend and fellow NWSL owner Eli Manning and ofc the GOAT my wife Serena Williams — expect some big things from the @NFL in 2025

Alex Ohanian wrote

This was when Clark and Williams along with football great Eli Manning were invited by the NFL to discuss ways to improve the attention on women’s flag football. From Ohanian’s words, he was impressed with Clark.

A 23-year-old women’s basketball star making a name for herself and staying humble at that is rare. That humility has made her a superstar. Now that superstar has become both a big enough name as well as one that fans can connect to, to get a call from the NFL, a multi-billion league, to seek advice.

Caitlin Clark and Fever ads dominate NCAA March Madness

Caitlin Clark’s Iowa ended their NCAA March Madness early. This meant she was unlikely to attend games. However, the National Invitation Tournament and Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournaments are taking place in Indiana.

In one of those games, fans caught a glimpse of Caitlin Clark. She was not physically present, rather she and her Indiana Fever were a part of a commercial promoting their upcoming season. The Fever Rising commercial ran on the jumbotrons during timeouts and breaks.

If anything, the Fever are doing whatever they can to keep promoting their upcoming season. Most of their games are sold out. But even then, they do not want to stop from letting fans know of what to expect in Clark’s second WNBA season.

Many favor the almost completely restructured team to battle for the WNBA title. But since most of them have not played a game in Fever colors yet, the commercial focused on Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull. They start their journey on May 3rd with a preseason game against the Washington Mystics.
