Caitlin Clark’s DAGGER long range 3’s in 4th quarter bring 1st career WNBA win in front of sold-out crowd

Caitlin Clark makes dagger long range 3's in the closing minutes to win her 1st career WNBA game and 1st win of season for Indiana Fever

Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever lost 5 games in a row. The pressure was on her and her team to win a game before they were stuck with a horrible losing record. In the past 3 games, they showed major improvement after getting blown out in the first 2. It required a spirited 2nd-half rally and a pair of long-range daggers 3’s from Clark right at the end to win the first game of her WNBA career against Cameron Brink and the Los Angeles Sparks.

The game started with the Sparks taking both quarters to lead at the half. Clark struggled throughout the 1st half as she could not get her shots to fall. In the 2nd half, the Fever changed schemes and made her more of a facilitator. That blew the game wide open as her teammates Aliyah Boston and Temi Fagbenle feasted on her passes to score at will. This scheme helped the Fever claw back at the lead and bring them level with minutes to go. Then Clark took matters into her own hands and sent defenders flying as she hit two step back 3’s from almost near the logo. That effectively sealed the game handing friend Cameron Brink a loss.

Caitlin Clark ended up with just 11 points. However, she grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and dished 8 assists. She also had a good defensive game, notching 4 steals and 1 block. A marked improvement over her first few games that were riddled with turnovers.

Getting her 1st win in front of a sold-out crowd was a major win for not only her and her Indiana Fever, but for the WNBA too. The Los Angeles Sparx averaged just over 6500 tickets last season. Today they had more than 19,000. Now onto tomorrow’s 2nd of her first back-to-back game of her career.

Caitlin Clark to square off against best friend and Iowa teammate Kate Martin

Tomorrow, Caitlin Clark will again be welcomed to a sold-out arena, but this time in Las Vegas. The back-to-back champions Las Vegas Aces are the standard of the WNBA. Beating them will be a tough task. However, who guards her will be the most interesting part of the game.

The Aces selected Kate Martin in the draft even though she was sitting in the crowd to support her best friend. The defending champions drafted her because of her competitive nature and drive to win. She has already featured heavily in games and went viral for a key block against Cameron Brink’s Sparks. Tomorrow, most likely she will be the one guarding her best friend.

No one has better knowledge of Clark’s game than Martin, which is why Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon will ask her to stop her friend. It will be a great battle between former teammates, as Clark will then defend Martin on the opposite end. Setting up a possible spectacle in Sin City.
