Caitlin Clark hoped she would build on her phenomenal rookie season performances and help the retooled Indiana Fever to a championship in 20225. That was until she was hit by the injury bug.

The first quad strain saw her miss 5 games. Upon her return, she dominated against the defending champion and then-unbeaten New York Liberty. LeBron James applauded that performance, as it gave hope that she would dominate the season.

A few games later, she suffered her second injury, this time to the left groin, which again saw her miss 5 games. This time, her return was marred by shooting woes, and many wondered if her injury played a hand in that.

Before she could get her rhythm back, she suffered a third injury and was teary on her way to the bench after pulling her right groin. She missed the All-Star weekend at her place of work and has since not played basketball.

Consultations with experts and a lot of recovery methods later, fans were hopeful for a return as she was seen practicing with her team. However, those hopes were dashed when Caitlin Clark released a statement earlier.

I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling.

Chloe Bibby will miss the remainder of the season due to a left knee injury.

Indiana Fever revealed

They signed the Australian forward to a 7-day hardship contract when Clark was out. In 3 games, Chloe Bibby averaged 8 points while helping the Fever impose their defense.

She was then given a rest-of-season contract after helping the team win all those 3 games. Over time, her production dropped, but the overall impact was solid as the Fever went 6-3 when she played.

Then she suffered a knee injury, which sidelined her for the past 6 games. Had she continued to play, the team could have exploited her floor-stretching ability and possibly won some games.

Now, the Indiana Fever will possibly head into the playoffs with 5 season-ending injuries. It might become a daunting task to go against the league’s best without those impactful players.
