DiJonai Carrington tried her best to keep her calm amidst such a narrative driven question. But Christine Brennan was not done with it.

I don’t even know why I would intend to hit anybody in the eye. That doesn’t even make sense to me. I didn’t know I hit her actually. I was trying make a play on the ball and I guess I followed through, and I hit her. It’s never intentional.

DiJonai Carrington answered

In another follow up question Brennan asked if she and her teammate Marina Mabrey were laughing about the incident during the game. Carrington reiterated that she did not know at the time that she had poked Caitlin Clark in the eye. These questions suggest that Christine Brennan, was trying to coax the Connecticut Sun star into giving an answer that could fuel the narrative.

But the fourth-year player kept her nerve and answered in the most subtle way possible. Carrington knows the situation has been negative all throughout. Many have called for her to be suspended for game 2 of the WNBA playoffs.
