One of the most pleasing sights in basketball is watching Caitlin Clark bomb threes from way beyond the arc. The Indiana Fever star has seemingly unlimited range. Her average 3-pointer distance is higher than even NBA superstars like Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry and Trae Young. Clark can make the shot off the dribble, coming off screens, stepping back or with a side step.

Clark used her 3-point shooting to great effect in the Fever’s loss to Atlanta Dream two days ago. She recorded 27 points and 11 assists in the game, valiantly leading comebacks by her team. In particular, she had a 3-point from nearly 30 feet out during the fourth quarter. Clark made the improbable shot while also being undercut by her defender, who encroached her landing space on the jumper.

Clark’s shot brought the Fever back to within four points of Atlanta after they started the period down by double digits. However, her fans were appalled at how the referee, positioned merely a few feet away, missed an obvious call. According to them, Clark isn’t being protected, and they cited several examples from both the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Their grievance seems to be legitimate, judging from the footage.

A fan made a post highlighting the botched refereeing:

Hi WNBA, can we get some landing-space fouls? No shade on the defender here at all, but this could end a player’s career, the NBA takes it seriously, yet in the W we’re still saying “It’s a physical league” when a vulnerable shooter’s ankles are in jeopardy on such fouls.

Another fan responded, saying, “Wait until she breaks an ankle…that gunna be a s**t storm.”

Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston were the only two Fever players regularly providing offense on Tuesday. Kelsey Mitchell had an up-and-down game, while DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard were completely ineffective against the stout Atlanta Dream frontcourt.

Caitlin Clark set a WNBA record during her second game of the year

The Atlanta Dream held off the Indiana Fever, 91-90, in a nail-biting game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Atlanta took the lead early on in the game, but they succumbed to second quarter pressure and the lead was down to one point at the break. They broke away again in the third quarter, but were unable to hold their double-digit lead.

Indiana came back and tied the game up at 89-89 with only 1:24 remaining. However, they were unable to score a bucket after that; Aliyah Boston missed one of the pair of free throws she was awarded. Caitlin Clark did not get a touch during the final possession of the game with 9.1 seconds remaining.

Yet, Clark set a record for the most 25-point, 10-assist games in WNBA history, surpassing Sabrina Ionescu all-time. She will have an opportunity to become the first player with 20-10 games in the first three games of the season this evening against Atlanta.
