Caitlin Clark is still on her path of recovery and will need a few more weeks of rest and conditioning before she can suit up for the Indiana Fever. Her return should be in time for them to battle in the playoffs.
The Fever had put together a decent five-game winning streak. Since then, they lost a close game against the Sparks, and then an embarrassing blowout loss to the Phoenix Mercury.
This latest loss could be a wake-up call for the Indianapolis-based squad, which can use it as motivation to launch a run of wins that should help them continue moving up the standings.
Those hopes, however, were riding on the examinations of Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald‘s injuries. The former went down after coming onto the court just a minute ago, and the latter hobbled off after playing 24 minutes.
The team released a statement with an update confirming that both guards will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season. Colson sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in her left knee during the first quarter of the game.
McDonald, on the other hand, suffered a broken bone in her right foot during the fourth quarter. This means the Fever are now left with no true point guards to field.
Sydney Colson (left ACL tear) and Aari McDonald (broken bone in right foot) will both miss the remainder of the season after suffering injuries during our game in Phoenix on Thursday.

At a time when the team needed them both to continue filling in until Caitlin Clark returned, this was the worst blow they could face. Now, their season is in jeopardy, as are their playoff hopes.
Fans lose their minds after Fever lose both point guards for the season
Injuries are heartbreaking for the player, their respective team, and their fans. Indiana Fever fans were trying to keep their cool and wait until Caitlin Clark returned. The team’s performances gave them hope that she would return in a good situation.
But losing both remaining point guards on the same night, and for the rest of the season, was heartbreaking. Now, the team’s fans wonder what would happen to the Fever as they now have to wait and figure out how to move forward.
There is a risk of missing out on the playoffs, as this development would derail their flow. Fans believe this came at the most inopportune time, and they are ready to throw in the towel. Check out examples of those comments below:

My heart breaks for Syndey Colson and Aari McDonald. Do not rush Caitlin Clark back though. Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell can figure Point Guard out for now. Sign a guard for depth.

Sometimes, things just aren't meant to be. This season seems to fall into that category for this franchise. Just a total nightmare in every respect.

can we just get a "do over" for this season…

The Indiana Fever could continue to somehow scrape away wins until Caitlin Clark returns. But even then, without Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, the team’s chemistry could take a bigger hit than their performances on court.
Fever could still sign another backup until Caitlin Clark returns
The WNBA’s trade deadline has passed, which means the Indiana Fever will not have a chance to trade for another point guard. But, as per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the franchise could get some reprieve in the coming days.

Due to league rules, the Fever won’t be able to sign a hardship player until after tomorrow’s game against Chicago. They will have nine players available for that contest.

This means over the next few days, the Fever can still sign a point guard off the market. The options available might not tantalize anyone’s mind. However, they still need someone to run the floor and set up the other players until Caitlin Clark returns.

Placing playmaking duties on Kelsey Mitchell or Sophie Cunningham‘s shoulders will only add to the stress of scoring. Therefore, a relief point guard, someone who can pass first rather than score, should be the franchise’s focus over the next few days.
