For those who ply their trade in the WNBA, income is a difficult proposition. The league has been criticized for its low pay, even though it was recently increased from a much lower amount. Not only that, women’s basketball players are not ripe with endorsement deals. That led to the creation of the new Unrivaled League, which promises much better pay along with other benefits.

With Angel Reese already signed up, the sporting world is curious to know what Rookie of the Year rival Caitlin Clark will do. Reporter Matthew Byrne asked her that question during the Indiana Fever practice sessions earlier.

Honestly I’m just focused on this right now. One thing at a time. Can’t always just be moving on to the next. My focus is right here.

It seems Caitlin Clark is focused on improving her game now, while also working to play better alongside her teammates to help the Indiana Fever secure a playoff spot. Additionally, she is in a dead heat with longtime rival Angel Reese in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. Both are too close in the rankings to be a clear favorite. However, the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar’s form suggests she will eventually overtake Reese.

More importantly, the playoff hopes of both the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky hinges on the development of both rookies. If things stand as they are, both will end up in the first round playing either of the two conference leaders. Clark wants to focus on that target first.

Caitlin Clark should join the Unrivaled League

The Unrivaled league, a 3×3 format basketball league created by superstars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier is attempting to improve the pay of women’s basketball players. Not only will salaries be much higher than what the WNBA offers now, but also major cash prizes are in store for winners.

What might interest Caitlin Clark is the impact her involvement will bring. If she is a part of the first 30 players to sign up, she will get an equity stake in the league. Even if the pay might be far lower than what her endorsements will bring, it will be a great chance to help advance women’s basketball.

Having a secondary league will mean the already burgeoning interest in the sport will increase by a lot more. That will bring in more endorsements and sponsorship deals for both leagues. Increasing revenue and hence better pay for all women’s basketball players.
