Throughout the last two years of her illustrious college career and now in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark has been the de facto face of women’s basketball. Even though others have come in to try to take that throne, the 23-year-old knows she is the one who draws the most crowds.
Her fans throng every arena the Indiana Fever plays in. Some opponents have talked about how Fever fans have overtaken their arenas. Clark’s teammates now call every arena their home arena.
This season, those fans have not been able to see the superstar point guard in action as much as they would have liked. Injuries have forced her to miss 18 games so far, and there is no final timeline set for her return.
However, the Iowa native has not missed a game, and arrives along with her teammates at every arena, signing autographs for the legion of fans who come just to see her. When she appeared on Bird’s Eye View, WNBA legend and host Sue Bird asked Clark how she manages it all.
I’m going to go to every road game no matter what, whether I’m playing or not… That doesn’t happen when LeBron or Steph get hurt. They’re always going to be there… You want to give people something to cheer about… I just try to make as much time for people.

“i’m gonna go to every road game. no matter what, even when i’m playing or not. i do feel this responsibility of being out there and playing—people spend so much time and money just to see [me] play.” pic.twitter.com/McHly2kduY
This answer somewhere indicates that Caitlin Clark knows her responsibility of being the ‘Face of the WNBA’. She knows she has to appear and sign autographs, just as LeBron James and Stephen Curry do in the NBA.
Sue Bird reveals how Caitlin Clark impacts fans
During their conversation on the podcast, Sue Bird understood where Caitlin Clark was coming from. She knows that there is a lot riding on the 23-year-old’s shoulders, and she is doing an admirable job so far. Bird then cited an example to show how the Fever guard impacts fans.

You were playing, and it was in Boston. I was on the plane, and I had it on. The guy diagonal from me also had it on. You didn’t have the best shooting night, but you finally hit a three. This man threw his hands up. He was so hyped… Your relationship with the fans is so special in that way. You make people feel.

One of my favorite clips from the podcast was Sue telling a story about being on a plane and seeing a fan watching her game on the plane. After Caitlin hit a three the man raised up his arms on the plane in excitement.

The 4-time champion believes those instances show how the Indiana Fever guard impacts fans. That is why what she does on and off the court is special enough to draw thousands every game day.
Caitlin Clark reveals how she first reacted to her injuries
Caitlin Clark continues to greet fans and sign autographs even if she is not yet ready to entertain them with her on-court performances. She had hoped for a different year after all the hard work in the offseason. The injuries have impacted her, but she was not sure how to manage them initially.
I’ve never been through anything like this. I think that’s probably why it’s been so hard, because I’ve never really dealt with injury. When I was first feeling pain, I didn’t understand it. Am I just getting tight? Do I need to hit a stretch, or do I need to get rubbed out? Do I need some Icy Hot? What’s going on here?

Clark is someone who played 4 straight years in college, and then 1 year in the WNBA, and never missed a game. For someone who has been growing through her body for these 5 years, it was difficult to understand the injuries.

That lack of understanding has been frustrating for the 23-year-old who just wants to play ball and win games. It seems after this 3rd injury, the Fever wanted to completely understand what she was going through, and hence, the lengthy recovery schedule.
