Fans call out Caitlin Clark for 10 turnovers on her WNBA debut, Indiana Fever blown out by Connecticut Sun on the road
Caitlin Clark and her Indiana fever strolled into Connecticut to take on the Sun. The entire basketball world was hyped for today’s WNBA debut of the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history.
However, all did not go well to plan when she committed 10 turnovers, leading to a blowout loss, leaving fans calling her out.
Debut games can put an enormous amount of pressure on athletes to perform. Some do come away with a brilliant debut. But most of the time the adjustment is difficult, especially when the difference in playing standards was evident.
Caitlin Clark probably endured the toughest opposing defense she has faced in her short basketball career. That led to a frustrating shooting display and recording 10 turnovers throughout the course of the game.
She did end up with a decent 20 points. However, it came from a poorer than her usual standard of 30% from the field. What did not help matters is that her teammates could not set the screens from which she used to feast during her college days.
Therefore, it was not the debut that she or the legions of basketball fans watching around the world were hoping for. She might have just played the first game of her WNBA career. Which means she can only improve. But even then, fans were not happy.
Fans call out Caitlin Clark for her inefficient outing leading to a blowout loss
Caitlin Clark was supposed to torch the WNBA. Instead, they were treated to what is known as a ‘welcome to the big league’ moment. A warning of a similar kind did come from Diana Taurasi a while back.
But Clark’s fans expected her to demolish that warning with a debut to remember. Therefore, those disappointed fans could not hold themselves back once the final buzzer sounded.
They took to social media to voice their displeasure at watching Clark and her Indiana Fever team get blown out of the arena. Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
The Connecticut Sun are title contenders, possessing some of the best players in the league. Clark and her fever will face off against the sun three more times this season. A perfect measuring stick of her progression as the season continues.
