Caitlin Clark recently inked a multi-million dollar shoe deal with American sports giant Nike. Despite the breakthrough behind the news, it has sparked an intense debate with Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports. He expressed discontent over what he perceived as a contract underserving of the record-breaking female basketball icon.

Mr. Portnoy took to social media, where he asserted that Caitlin Clark was getting screwed with the deal valued at $28 million for eight years. His argument was based on the fact that her real value is much higher and went as far as suggesting she should have been offered a minimum of $80 million over the same eight-year duration.

Furthermore, he talked about her market value by comparing her potential impact to NBA player and Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker, where he boldly claimed that he surpasses him by “100x” in terms of star power and impact. However, the deal also involved the production of her signature shoe.

Caitlin Clark was drafted number one by the Indiana Fever. However, her WNBA contract was considered below par by many. Add to that this Nike deal and the whole thing seems unjust to fans.

Caitlin Clark would’ve received a $15M+ BIG3 contract offer, according to co-founder

Jeff Kwatinetz, co-founder of BIG3, earlier this week in an article for OutKick, said WNBA’s newest star, Caitlin Clark, could have received over $15 million had she chosen their league rather than committed fully to the WNBA. He also said they would have paid her $10 million in salaries over two years.

a percentage of team ownership worth millions, 50 percent of merchandising revenues from her name and likeness, and ownership of a BIG3 documentary with a seven-figure advance.

Furthermore, that was what she stood to gain in 10 games and still be able to compete with the WNBA. According to Spotrac, she will earn $76,535 in her rookie season in the WNBA.

Why she chose the WNBA solely is up to her after being courted by the BIG3. It just tends to prove that she is into the game not for the money but mainly for the love of it.
