The two rookies have collectively elevated the sport’s reach as well as fortunes with their sellout crowds and record-breaking views; not just due to their stardom, but also because of their play on the court. Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes has time and again acknowledged the efforts of one of them, while continuously disregarding the other.
This brought out many blowbacks from a number of established analysts as it was evident, that she was clearly continuing the hate she started when Caitlin Clark was still at Iowa. Even in her rebuttal to Stephen A. Smith, she did not acknowledge that she needed to talk about the Indiana Fever rookie. Instead, she just gave an explanation as to why she favors others. But all that hate showed its ugly side when she went silent as her co-commentator was talking about Clark during yesterday’s WNBA game in Dallas.
Her silence made it clear to fans that under no circumstances would she talk about the superstar rookie. Some have mentioned that she might be hurt by the fan blowback she received when she sent out a warning to Clark and other college players. Even then, it does not explain how Sheryl Swoopes chooses to ignore Clark.
On one hand, she openly credits all other players on the Indiana Fever for turning their season around. But did not once mention the strides Caitlin Clark has taken in her own career, or even mention her contributions to those wins. Fans cannot understand why she deliberately shuts down talk of the Fever rookie.

They feel that the apparent hatred the WNBA legend is showing is without any base. It is not as if Caitlin Clark did anything or said anything wrong to her. But to take that hatred onto a live broadcast of a game was a bit over the top. Fans feel it is unprofessional to stay silent on any subject, especially when a live commentary requires all participants to continue the discussion.
