Caitlin Clark gets hilariously guarded between free throws by Aari McDonald
Guarding Caitlin Clark is certainly not an easy task especially while the star is having a game like Tuesday’s. With an incredible range, Clark also has the ability to score very quickly as soon as she touches the ball. As the Los Angeles Sparks Aari McDonald is well aware of that, the player took defense against Clark very seriously, maybe even too seriously.
As McDonald was fouled, the guard had free throws to shoot for the LA Sparks. However, as soon as the player made her first, McDonald transitioned towards Caitlin Clark to guard her for the Indiana Fever’s next possession. The guard hilariously forgot about her second free throw as the announcer simply reminded her of one more. It was an honest mistake by McDonald which even made Clark chuckle in disbelief.
The misunderstanding was only human of McDonald as Clark was going on a run during the game. The 22-year-old dropped her career-high against the Sparks. Clark had a versatile performance as she scored 30 points, five rebounds, and six assists. The Fever’s guard also showed her defensive skills as she had three steals and three blocks in the game.
However, Clark’s performance came up short again as the Fever lost 82-88. Despite her rather embarrassing moment, McDonald played a huge role for the Sparks. The guard dropped 21 points coming off the bench and also made some essential three-pointers in the win.
Caitlin Clark reacted to Aari McDonald guarding her between free throws
The veterans of the WNBA have not made it easy for Clark despite her rookie year. The players have played intense physical defense against the first overall pick since her debut game. Regardless of that, McDonald’s strange play was certainly something fans did not expect.
While fans expected Clark to be upset about the play, the guard cleared the air after the game. As the foul was technical, Clark admitted that McDonald did not realize she had two free throws. The athlete also showed her admiration towards McDonald.
I think she was just trying to pick me up. I don't think she had realized that she got another free throw because it was the technical free throw. I saw that, though… Kind person, honestly.Caitlin Clark said
Clark is now getting into the rhythm after a poor start to her rookie season. The Fever managed to get their first win of the season last week but later failed despite Clark’s dominating outing. The team certainly needs to make changes to Clark’s playing minutes in order to get more wins.
