Indiana Fever and WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark

The impact of Caitlin Clark on the world of women’s sports is pretty much evident. Her game has brought eyeballs to the WNBA and NCAA college basketball at an unprecedented level. The impact also led to many unhappy fans when she was snubbed from Team USA’s Paris Olympics squad. They felt the Indiana Fever rookie could have helped the league grow a global presence.

But she did not need the trip to Paris to influence girls worldwide. A report from KCCI News revealed how she became a beacon of hope for girls in Uganda. Under the supervision of ChildVoice they have found Caitlin Clark as their inspiration. The organization, which helps children affected by the multiple wars in the region, brought in television to help the girls catch up on WNBA games.

Seeing how the thing was happening like Magic in my eyes. I like it so much and I said ‘wow’. I can also try it.

They resort to solar power and satellite internet to access those games. They started by watching Clark and her Iowa Hawkeyes beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in their final run to the NCAA tournament last season. In that game, they saw Clark lead her team to win against the Jacy Sheldon and the Buckeyes.

Her 35 points and nine assists were instrumental in beating their Conference topping opponents. But more importantly, her performances inspired those girls in Uganda to find something to cheer for. Their lives are just being rebuilt after losing their loved ones to war.

Caitlin Clark has girls in Iceland starstruck

Caitlin Clark’s impact is transcending all borders. Other than the girls in Uganda, young girls and other fans across the globe are adjusting to US times to catch her play. One such country is Iceland, where games are usually broadcast at around midnight. But even then, young Icelandic girls leave everything aside to catch her play.

As reported by Iceland’s news agency Visir, former athletes Helena Sverrisdóttir and Silja Úlfarsdóttir held an Indiana Fever watch party in Minigarður (Mini Park). They were initially not sure how it would turn out. However, with the number of people at the venue, it was clear that Caitlin Clark has fans worldwide.

Fans of all age groups gathered to watch the WNBA rookie set a new career scoring high when beating the Dallas Wings. Ironically, it was also against fellow rookie and former college rival Jacy Sheldon this time. If she continues to rack up fans at this pace, her impact might transcend that of any sportsperson in recent years.
