“Our fans could have done better,” Caitlin Clark jerseys takeover in Dallas crowd leaves Wings star with mixed feelings
Dallas Wings star Satou Sabally made her feelings known regarding the fanfare of Caitlin Clark at the home arena.
Caitlin Clark
The Indiana Fever rookie Catilin Clark was once again the main topic amongst the WNBA community. This came after her side’s win against the Dallas Wings. Also, Clark’s jerseys were flooded at the College Park Center. Wing’s star Satou Sabally didn’t appreciate this. After the game, Sabally subtly called out her home fans to show more support for the Wings rather than the Fever rookie.
The number of Clark jerseys in the audience was seen in person and on television. Clark’s popularity has been clear this season. In a closely contested game, the Wings lost 93-100 to the Indiana Fever. In the post-match press conference, Satou Sabally expressed her disappointment with the situation. She appreciated Clark’s importance but wanted more passion from the home crowd.
Obviously, it’s annoying bc there were way too many Caitlin fans in our arena, but kudos… I feel like our Dallas fans could have done better, I had mixed feelings seeing all the Caitlin jerseys in our home, but it’s an amazing sign for women’s basketball.
The Fever had the highest attendance in the WNBA, with over 500,000 fans this season. Attendance at non-Fever WNBA matches is up 20% this season, demonstrating that the “Caitlin Clark Effect” is real. Sabally appreciated that Clark and her impact remains a positive sign for women’s basketball. If the interest grows year after year, it will benefit the entire WNBA roster.
In addition, Clark does not seem to have a drop in her performances. After dropping 31 points on the Chicago Sky on Friday, Clark again performed admirably against the Wings. She had 28 points, 12 assists, and four rebounds, shooting 45.5% from three and 52.6% from the field. It remains to be seen how far the rookie sensation can take her team in her debut season.
Caitlin Clark sets a new franchise rookie record
Caitlin Clark has elevated her franchise, the Indiana Fever. Not only that, but she also broke many records in her rookie season. In addition, in her most recent matchup against the Dallas Wings, Clark broke yet another rookie record and set a new one. She has been relentless this season.
Clark set a new record for most points in a season by a rookie in franchise history. She scored the 595th point of her career, breaking the Fever rookie record set by WNBA star Tamika Catchings. She finished with 617 points at the end of Sunday’s game. This is a huge achievement for the Fever star, given the criticism she faced at the start of this season by the media.
In addition, Clark is also in the running to win the 2024 ROTY Award. Clark has a slight advantage over Angel Reese lately due to her recent performances. It will be intriguing to watch who snatches the glorious award between the two stars of their respective franchises this WNBA season.
