The Caitlin Clark freight train is at full speed. Even though she and her Indiana Fever have lost the first 4 games of her professional career, the former college superstar is still making waves. She has landed another major partnership as she becomes the first athlete since the great Michael Jordan to sign with Wilson, the official game ball partner of the WNBA and the NBA.
As revealed by the brand themselves, the rookie superstar has signed on with Wilson on a multi-year partnership deal. This means, Caitlin Clark will be the face of the brand for the foreseeable future. The last time the brand had an athlete as their primary ambassador, it was the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan. This also means she will be the first basketball player since Jordan to have a signature basketball of her own.
This is a stratospheric move for the most popular basketball player over the past 2 years. Even though Wilson is the official game ball partner of the WNBA and the NBA, partnering with Clark means they again added the biggest name in the sport as the face of the brand.
This is another major deal for the 22-year-old as she continues to impact the game of women’s basketball. These deals will make up for her paltry salary many times over. But most importantly, it will help pave the way for other stars in the WNBA to get deals.
Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever improving despite losing 4 straight
Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever struggled through the 1st two games. After all, it was her first step against seasoned professionals. Going up against 2 championship contenders resulted in blowout losses. The New York Liberty who blew them out by 36 points in game 2, welcomed them to their home court for game 3. But this time, Caitlin Clark and her teammates lost by only 11.
Then in game 4, that deficit against the Connecticut Sun was down to 4. They could have even tried to force a win had Clark’s teammate Aliyah Boston made a crucial layup in the dying seconds. This speaks volumes of how they have improved as they rack up minutes playing together and building chemistry.
Although there is still a lot to learn from each other, the signs are positive. It could not be long before the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history starts leading her team to wins.
