The basketball gods surely don’t seem to be willing to give a break to the hard workers hustling. After Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton’s seasons ended with injuries, the face of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark became the latest high profile victim of a long term injury. The Indiana Fever star suffered a groin injury in the final stages of their win against the Connecticut Sun this past Tuesday.
Clark, who had outscored the Sun by herself in the final 5 minutes of the game, was on her way to sealing another vintage moment to her already burgeoning collection of highlights in the WNBA. But she had a tweak in her groin while attempting a pass and was in visible discomfort after the play. Clark even went to the stanchion behind the basket, pumped her fists at it in frustration and was in tears as she left the court.
It was clear that she had suffered a major reinjury to her groin after trying to manage it over the past month. This was confirmed by her as she ruled herself out of the All-Star Weekend proceedings. In a message posted by the Indiana Fever social media team across platforms, Caitlin Clark announced that she would not be taking part in the 3-point contest or the All-Star Game, for which she is a captain this year:
I’m so excited for Indy to host WNBA All-Star this weekend. I want to thank the Indianapolis Host Committee and all of the people that have put in endless work over the past year to put this event together. I know this will be the best All-Star yet.
I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say that I can’t participate in the 3-point contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy coach our team to a win. Can’t wait to see y’all there!

Losing Caitlin Clark will inevitably cause a sharp decline in viewership and interest around the marquee event. She is the difference-maker and responsible for a huge bump in WNBA interest around the globe.
Caitlin Clark has had a rough hand played to her in the 2024 WNBA season
To say that this 2025 WNBA season has been a disappointment for the Indiana Fever would be an understatement. Despite hiring an experienced head coach in Stephanie White and recruiting All-Stars Natasha Howard and DeWanna Bonner during the offseason, the team got off to a rough start this year. Bonner was unable to keep pace with her teammates and was eventually benched, before being waived.

Caitlin Clark has herself been having a down year individually, mainly due to dealing with a pair of injuries within two months of the season starting. The 23-year-old entered the season with MVP expectations and had a good start, but her injuries knocked her efficiency stats off whack. She has failed to crack 20 points since returning from her second injury-enforced absence that started on June 25th.
The Indiana Fever will be hoping that Clark can at least be back in action by the end of the season. By all accounts, her groin troubles look too serious to risk her making a comeback before it is in full recovery. The Fever would like to keep her available for future championship pushes rather than go all in with her in a year when the team isn’t quite there in terms of being contenders.
