WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark has similar impact like LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama

The debates of WNBA players hating on Caitlin Clark have resumed. The last game against the Seattle Storm led fans on social media to erupt as Skylar Diggins-Smith and her head coach evidently showed their frustrations. But this situation brings up the question of whether the league should protect her.

The NBA did their best to protect LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama when they were rookies. To discuss this, former player Gilbert Arenas and his panel at Gil’s Arena brought out their own views. The former All-Star summed it up, saying only the special few should get preferential treatment.

99% all rookies get the same treatment. There's a few that's come in through history, you can't f**k with them. Look, when LeBron came, got the yapping, mid-season. Wemby right now? Off limits.

Arenas was clear that sooner or later, the league might step in to stop the hate. After all, they see how the girl from Iowa is transforming the WNBA as a player as well as a superstar. The panel agreed that Caitlin Clark has figured out the league. Earlier, she was getting upset at players taking shots at her or defending with a lot of physicality. Now, they believe she has figured out how to play around those roadblocks.

That means she is just starting. Gilbert Arenas and his panel believe it will not be long before all the hate the WNBA players are showing right now will be ineffective. They will have to figure out how to play better. If not, they will have to accept that the Indiana Fever superstar is on a different level.

Sue Bird explains how Caitlin Clark has elevated her play

An elite level of display from Caitlin Clark was evident in college. However, heading into the WNBA, there were question marks if she could adjust to the physicality of the league. Legend of the game, Sue Bird, explained what she saw on her podcast.

What I’ve learned in my WNBA experience is pace of play trumps physicality, it trumps size, it can trump experience. What I see in Caitlin, what I see in Kelsey Mitchell, they’re just ramming it down people’s throats.

It explains how the Indiana Fever has adjusted their game plan to help Clark explode. She has the pace to get by anyone and uses that with her teammates to inflict damage. The damage was evident when Clark and her teammates Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull ran the Storm into the ground. They zipped past Skylar Diggins-Smith and her teammates with a 33-17 run in the fourth quarter.

This phenomenal performance sealed the game. No wonder the Storm were agitated when Clark rubbed it in their face. The frustrations boiled over and now have become a talking point. Maybe the WNBA needs to level up to go toe-to-toe with her.
