It has been 2 years since Caitlin Clark left the University of Iowa as the best athlete to grace their institution. That also means she has fond memories of her time there.

After all, she was instrumental in helping the once-lackluster Hawkeyes Women’s Basketball program take a step towards the elite club usually occupied by the likes of UConn, South Carolina, UCLA, USC, and others.

Now that the Indiana Fever superstar is in her offseason, she has enough time to catch all the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball games. Surprisingly, this year’s team, helmed by head coach Jan Jensen, is unbeaten and has surged up the AP rankings to 11th.

To stay there, the young team has to win every game, and their latest game was against Fairfield. While watching the 2nd quarter, with the two teams battling close to each other, Caitlin Clark wrote this.

No way they just gave Stremlow a tech for that. Refs have to let the girls show emotion.

The 23-year-old passing sensation was referring to a play where Iowa’s Taylor Stremlow blocked an opponent’s shot. After the block, the Sophomore taunted in her opponent’s face, which led the official to call a technical foul.

For someone who made her reputation as one of the best trash-talkers in women’s basketball, that call seemed weak, as Clark felt the officials were restricting her juniors’ chance to express themselves.

Iowa head coach subtly trolls Caitlin Clark’s trash-talking legacy

At the time of the foul, Iowa head coach Jan Jensen tried to reason with officials, but it did not work out. Later, after the game, while speaking about how Taylor Stremlow was not trying to cause trouble, Jensen said this.

Taylor is not a true trash talker. Now, I’ve coached a few; we will not name names.

Jan Jensen told reporters

This response drew a bout of laughter from the reporters, as they clearly understood who the 56-year-old coach was referring to. Caitlin Clark’s trash-talking is not just folklore in college basketball, but also in the WNBA.

Before turning pro, the Iowa native’s relentless taunts were seen as the mark of an amazing athlete, and it hit home with fans. It has also resonated with WNBA fans, but they have also seen other former college stars try to talk back to her.

Jensen knows what her current sophomore is capable of doing, and that was nowhere egregious enough to warrant a technical foul. Had it been Clark, her coaches could not do much, as they know how far she can go.

Caitlin Clark helped Iowa Hawkeyes become an upcoming college basketball powerhouse

When Caitlin Clark played for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Megan Gustafson was the only recent women’s basketball player from the program to make a name in the WNBA.

Other than that, the program was devoid of top-tier talent and would at most get local 3 or 4-star recruits to join. The Des Moines native was the first top 5-star recruit to join them.

When she started to draw viewers to her games, she also helped the program draw interest in potential highly-ranked recruits. One of them, Hannah Stuelke, was one of Clark’s favorite targets when they reached back-to-back NCAA Championship games.

The WNBA superstar’s influence also saw 5-star recruit Addie Deal join them this season, who, along with a plethora of 4-star talent, has won every game this season. This change would not have happened without Clark’s emergence.
