Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever have struggled through a lot of adversity this season. Injuries to 4 players, including the superstar point guard, have dampened their spirit.

Despite those mishaps, the Indianapolis-based squad has battled through those obstacles. They lost quite a few easy-to-win games, which ended up dropping them briefly down to 8th in the standings.

There was genuine fear among Fever fans that the injuries, along with the questionable officiating, were going to hinder their chances of making the playoffs.

Regarding the officiating, head coach Stephanie White has been quite vocal. She believes there has been no consistency in foul calls, even within the same game.

At the same time, players, such as Sophie Cunningham, have been fined 3 times. One of them came from trolling referees on social media, and then twice for calling out unfair officiating on her newly launched podcast.

In their game against the Los Angeles Sparks, there were again some instances of unfair officiating when All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell was fouled quite a few times. Veteran teammate, Sydney Colson, watching the game from home after surgery, wrote this on X.

At a certain point in the league’s existence, ima need for Kelsey Mitchell to get the same whistle as other stars. The way she gets assaulted is insane actually & I’ve considered roping my sister in to have her office pursue charges.

Dipping into her 11 years in the league and playing abroad, the 2-time champion believes Mitchell was not getting the calls she deserved. Colson wanted to take the legal route if needed to make a statement to the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark jokes about fines after Sydney Colson rant

Sydney Colson is known as the WNBA’s resident prankster. But the language in her tweet suggested she wanted to take the next step if the league does not address the problem. This caught the attention of teammate Caitlin Clark, who replied:

Careful you’re gonna get fined!

Caitlin Clark wrote

To this Colson again replied:

I can’t get no more fine.

Sydney Colson replied

The two were trolling the league with these tweets. It seems they know the officiating body will not do anything about the inconsistent refereeing. Therefore, it makes no sense to take any step.

The only outcome of those steps is for Colson and possibly Clark to get fined. The league generally does not tolerate public comments about its executives or officials.

Caitlin Clark’s Fever win at the buzzer

Caitlin Clark has started practicing with the team as she ramps up her recovery from the groin injury she suffered before the All-Star weekend. Since she is yet to return, her teammates took matters into their own hands when facing the Los Angeles Sparks at their home.

Early in the game, they fell behind and had to stage a rally in the 2nd quarter to reduce the deficit. Then in the 2nd half, they went toe-to-toe with the Sparks, keeping themselves within touching distance of the lead.

In the fourth quarter, a similar pattern of play ensued as both sides fought for loose balls, played terrific defense to deny the other, and used their physical might to stay in the game.

In the last minute of whenever the Sparks looked like they were about to steal the game in front of their fans, the Fever came back with an answer. But with 20 seconds left, they had a one-point lead.

In the next sequence, after probing the interior, Lexie Hull tried to drive in, and once the defense collapsed around her, she sent the ball out to Odyssey Sims, who drove inside and shot a floater.

This basket now gave the away team a 1-point lead. On the next possession, the Sparks tried to get open for a shot, but Kelsey Plum could not keep the ball in bounds. The Fever went on to win the game 76-75. Crucially, this win keeps them in 6th place.
