If there is anyone who is single-handedly pushing women’s basketball to the forefront, it has to be Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, whose on-court swagger and off-court humble but jovial nature have been a hit with fans.
The result of that fame has seen the WNBA grow exponentially over the past two years to a point where franchise values have soared into the hundreds of millions.
Other leagues also wanted a piece of the pie. The first instance was when Ice Cube‘s BIG 3 offered the Iowa native $5 million along with team equity and merchandise sales revenue share to play in his league.
She declined, as the league’s schedule directly conflicts with the WNBA. Upstart Unrivaled, who play in the offseason, sensed an opportunity and offered her a deal worth millions.
However, she declined the offer, as her focus was on rest, recovery, and developmental work ahead of her 2nd WNBA season. Now, another league has come to the fore, which has managed to sign a couple of Clark’s teammates.
This is a whole new one. This one offers lots and lots and lots of money, and that’s why people are moving toward this… There’s going to be a lot of people switching over… I tried to get her (Caitlin Clark) to like play in this one, she’s like, ‘Noooo.’

Not only has Caitlin Clark refused to play in Unrivaled this season, but it seems she is not interested in the upcoming Project B, in which Sophie Cunningham has joined. The latter hopes to take advantage of the promise of $10 million multi-year deals.
Project B’s $2 million salaries attracting WNBA talent
Caitlin Clark is earning millions of dollars even without stepping on the floor. Her $16 million endorsement haul this year has surprised many, especially when her WNBA paycheck is in the 5 figures.
Since she does not want to be burnt out playing basketball, the 23-year-old may have factored that in when rejecting advances from both Unrivaled and potentially Project B.
Unrivaled gave WNBA players a chance to stay back in the United States and still earn much more than their existing paychecks. Starting salaries of $200,000, along with equity, were enough to lure some of the best in the league.
This season, they have expanded their roster so as to lure in last season’s standout stars. Kelsey Mitchell ended up being a beneficiary, especially after her stellar All-NBA 1st Team selection.
Now, she too has been roped in by Project B, who were revealed to have salaries hovering near and above $2 million. That drew Sophie Cunningham into the league too, as she wants to take advantage of such an opportunity.

Along with them, a few other WNBA stars have also signed up. The league is set to start in 2026, even though its exact schedule is still not evident. Whatever they come up with, the games will most likely be in the WNBA’s offseason.
Sophie Cunningham reveals Caitlin Clark’s feisty side
Now that Caitlin Clark is not joining another league, her fans will now wait to watch her return to the court next. That means her savvy on-court demeanor will again be on full display.

Man, she is a piece. Everyone thinks I’m the feisty, sassy one. Absolutely not.
Sophie Cunningham told SI
This was Cunningham reiterating that even though she has the reputation of being the feistiest Indiana Fever player, she is actually a close 2nd to her superstar teammate.

The 29-year-old believes Clark is feistier than her. The guard may have a point, as the Iowa star’s actions against rival Angel Reese in their 2025 season-opener were enough proof of that point.
