Caitlin Clark has kicked off her second WNBA season in style with a statement performance in a win at Indianapolis. Clark entertained the sold-out Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd with a triple-double. She tallied 20 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and had 4 blocks during the matinee tipoff game. Her box score aside, Clark also got some schematically new looks on offense and was buoyed by a great defensive lineup around her.

Clark also made history by becoming the fastest WNBA player to record three triple-doubles. The Indiana Fever sensation has reached this mark in just 41 regular season games. She is currently tied with the great Candace Parker for the third position in the all-time WNBA triple-double leaderboard. It is safe to say that Clark is on a GOAT trajectory based on her performances thus far in the WNBA.

LeBron James has been one of Clark’s biggest supporters over the years. He has constantly singled her out for extensive praise, even noting how the two of them have faced similar critiques .Clark calledKing James the greatest basketball player ever in a recent interview. The two Nike figureheads have been in lockstep for over two years now on the marketing front. Before tipoff, James bade Clark best of luck with an Instagram post.

Following her sensational production despite playing only 32 minutes, James was even more impressed by how Caitlin Clark played in her first game this year. He tweeted,

“TRIPLE DUB CC!! Great way to kick off the season!”

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese had a bust-up, carrying on their rivalry

The Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky had some charged battles during the 2024 WNBA season. Fans of the two most popular rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were at each other’s throats, and continue to be. Chennedy Carter was given a common foul after she pushed Clark off the ball in a game, later elevated to a flagrant. Angel Reese herself was given a flagrant for hitting Clark on the head in another game.

The same combativeness seemed to carry over during the game today. After the Fever built up a lead at halftime, the Sky attempted to get Reese some buckets with interior play. Clark was able to strip Reese of the ball on one occasion, adding a steal to her total.

However, in a more isolated situation, just a few plays later, Clark attempted a steal off Reese as the latter drove in. She got Reese on both arms and her waist and was called for a foul. However, Reese had an over-the-top reaction to the foul and had some cuss words for her arch rival soon after. Despite her coaches keeping her away and Clark walking away, Reese continued to dish Clark with a piece of her mind.

The refereeing crew came together to look at replays and would later adjudge a flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark. They also gave Reese and Aliyah Boston offsetting technical fouls for the situation. This latest episode only adds more spice and drama to what could be a generational rivalry between the two second-year players. It is clear that neither Reese nor Clark will back down from a physical, contact sport.
