Caitlin Clark reveals next step in WNBA career after making playoffs in rookie season
Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever will build their roster focused on contending for WNBA championships from next season.
Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark are now focused on the WNBA championship
In her debut season, Caitlin Clark led the Indiana Fever to the WNBA playoffs for the first time in eight seasons. For a player as competitive as her, that usually means the next year has to be better. With several changes coming up, the phenom is expecting her team to build a competitive roster for the next step.
Reaching the playoffs in her rookie season was a monumental feat, especially as she first struggled to continue her college form. Then with a month of rest, she started playing at an MVP level. Now with proper rest for the first time in more than ten months, the rookie will look to focus on recovery.
She mentioned after her season finished that she will not play basketball in the offseason. But with her best friend and two teammates already signed up to the new Unrivaled League, it will not be a surprise if she does lace up.
However, her ultimate focus is on the next WNBA season, where the competitor in her would want to do better. She has already racked up some individual records and awards. But while playing in The Annika Pro-Am golf tournament, Caitlin Clark outlined what she is actually looking forward to next season.

This means she and the Indiana Fever are prioritizing building up on last season. The next step is to be a championship contender. The first step towards it was done when they replaced head coach Christie Sides with Stephanie White. But the next step is to fortify the squad.
Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever to be active in free agency
On December 6th, once the Golden State Valkyries picks one player from their team, the Indiana Fever will have one roster spot open. But so will all the existing twelve teams. However, going by what Caitlin Clark mentioned, it is possible they will be aggressive in free agency.
They know they will receive reinforcements from the draft. With their need mostly at the forward position, most mock drafts are suggesting that the team could target Notre Dame’s Sonia Citron. But if she has a stellar campaign this NCAA season, there is possibility that another team higher up will draft her.
That suggests the Fever might be focused on adding a proven veteran through free agency. Many standout players are available, but the most notable name they could target is current Dallas Wings superstar, Satou Sabally.
The player nicknamed ‘The Unicorn’ can score, defend the perimeter and handle playmaking duties. Primarily, Sabally’s scoring will give them a different dimension to their offense. If the Fever can land someone like her, Caitlin Clark could be fighting for a WNBA championship soon.
