The WNBA All-Star weekend is coming up, and fans are excited to see Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier lead their respective teams into battle. The point guard selected her Indiana Fever teammates, while also adding friend Sabrina Ionescu as a fellow starter.

Fans are excited about the prospect of seeing the two three-point twins, Clark and Ionescu, play together. At the same time, it will also be intriguing to see how they fare against Collier’s UConn and Lynx-heavy team.

Before that game on Sunday, fans will also head into Gainbridge Fieldhouse to watch the Skills Challenge as well as the three-point contest. Last season, Atlanta Dream’s Allisha Gray won both competitions, becoming the first-ever in WNBA history to do so.

This season, her form will likely make her the one to beat, as the league has announced the defending champion as the only competitor in both formats. The skills challenge will also feature Erica Wheeler, Skylar Diggins, and fellow point guards Natasha Cloud and Courtney Williams.

Since the All-Star weekend is in Indianapolis, the WNBA felt it was best if the host’s most important player was part of one of the events. They announced Caitlin Clark as one of the competitors for the Starry 3-point contest.

Along with her, the league added Sabrina Ionescu, Sonia Citron, and Kelsey Plum to the contest. This all-guard lineup features some of the best 3-point shooters in the WNBA, and fans are excited that this could go down as an all-time classic.

Fans excited for Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu’s duel

Sabrina Ionescu did not participate in last year’s 3-point contest, as she wanted to focus on Team USA’s preparations ahead of the Paris Olympics. Therefore, she could not defend her 2023 record-setting win.

This call-up gives her the chance to effectively re-establish herself as the gold standard of this format. Fans believe her battle against Gray will be the stuff of legends. At the same time, if Caitlin Clark can fix her current shooting woes, the competition can get a lot more exciting.

Fans believe that without game defense in her face, the Fever guard will give both the past champions a run for their money. Some believe this Clark vs. Ionescu battle could help the WNBA set new viewership ratings records. Check out examples of such reactions below:

Lately, Caitlin Clark admitted she has been struggling to shoot from the 3-point range. She reiterated that it had nothing to do with her shot mechanics. That should give fans hope of a potential nail-biter if she manages to get into rhythm.

Caitlin Clark excited to compete in 1st 3-point contest

After Sabrina Ionescu set the 2024 NBA All-Star 3-point contest against Stephen Curry alight, fans hoped she would return to battle again next year. Many believed she would bring along Caitlin Clark in a possible duel against the Warriors’ Splash Brothers.

However, that did not materialize after first Clark, and then Ionescu declined. The latter wanted her 1st 3-point contest to be in the WNBA, and was not willing to cede ground to the men’s league. Now that she has got her wish, and that too in her place of work, reporters asked the point guard if she was excited.

Not much went into it other than yes, I guess. It’s exciting. I’ve never participated in a 3-point competition before. I never practiced before. So, just go out there and have fun. I think the lineup of people competing is tremendous.
