Phoenix Mercury superstar Diana Taurasi battled Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever thrice this past WNBA season.

Caitlin Clark and now retired WNBA great Diana Taurasi
When Caitlin Clark was about to come into the WNBA, fans were hyped to see her play transition to the professional level. But WNBA great and Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi suggested that they pump their brakes as the Indiana Fever rookie might face growing pains playing against grown women.
Fans of the Iowa superstar felt the Mercury star was jealous of her. However, Clark’s early season struggles stopped those fans from directing any hate towards Taurasi. But as the season progressed, Taurasi and Clark met for the first time as competitors, and they showed mutual respect towards each other.
In their next meeting, Diana Taurasi went through her usual trash talking modes, but the way Clark responded left the Mercury star’s teammates in splits. It became evident that the rookie was not ready to take the trash talk, and it showed when the 42-year-old star embrace the rookie in their last meeting.
The signs were there that it could be the last time the two faced off as rumors of the Mercury star’s future were swirling. Now after twenty seasons, she interviewed with Time Magazine where they asked about her future in the sport.
Mentally and physically, I’m just full. That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.

The California native realized this past New Years Day that she did not have it in her anymore. That is when she confirmed to herself that it was time to walk away from the game. Taurasi leaves the game as arguable one of the greatest players of all time.
Caitlin Clark sums up Diana Taurasi in one word
It dawned on Caitlin Clark that she won’t face Diana Taurasi again in the WNBA. The league saw one of its best players leave the game. That prompted the Indiana Fever superstar to repost one of the retirement posts and wrote this caption.
Legend.

That was her way of summing up the six-time Olympic gold medal winner. She knows all too well that Taurasi is well and truly part of the GOAT conversation. Her list of accolades in both college basketball as well as the WNBA are way better than anyone else.

Moreover, her impact on women’s basketball has transcended those accolades. That is what Clark, and her era are building on as the sport is growing at an unbelievable rate. Expect the Phoenix Mercury to retire Taurasi’s jersey anytime this coming WNBA season.
