Caitlin Clark has started her second WNBA season in style. Not only did she win both preseason games, but her Indiana Fever started off the regular season by blowing out Angel Reese‘s Chicago Sky in front of their fans.

Clark dominated the game and ended up with a triple-double. Her 20 points and 10 each in rebounds and assists in just 32 minutes helped her Indiana Fever win the game 93-58. The one-sided affair was not even close, as the home team proved that they are ready to battle for a championship.

Before the game, as fans and media analysts wondered how the second-year guard’s performances would be, a certain LeBron James posted a message on Instagram. He shared photos of them finally meeting and hyped her before her second season.

This mention sent social media into a tizzy, as fans could not believe that King James had finally met the most popular women’s athlete on the planet. When reporters met Caitlin Clark at Fever practice earlier, they asked her about the meeting.

I knew I was going to meet him when I was coming to the game. That’s one of my idols. LeBron is the GOAT to me. It was a crazy moment when I got to meet him in the back. He’s my favorite player of all time. I don’t get too starstruck from people, but he is one of those people that I did.

Caitlin Clark replied

The Fever guard revealed that she first thought the message was fake. But then she understood that it was indeed from LeBron James and stated that it was cool for her idol to share that. Later on, he also hyped her triple-double performances in this game.

LeBron James has always stood by Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark was starstruck when meeting her idol LeBron James for the very first time. But it is not the first time the NBA’s all-time leading scorer has thrown his support behind the Indiana Fever guard. He has been doing that right from the time she set records in college.

When Clark came into the WNBA, she was facing increasing heat from current and former players for garnering that much attention before she proved her capabilities in the league. Their criticism had some logic, as many hyped top picks have not panned out and become busts.

But James was the first to call out those peers and veterans. He believed their criticism was unwarranted and they should back off from questioning Clark’s abilities to play basketball. James received some brickbats from some sections of the fans.

But mostly, many agreed with his words of support, and soon, those critics were forced to lower their voices. As the season progressed and Clark proved she was worth all that attention, James took shots at those critics, telling them that they were wrong.

Caitlin Clark and Fever have to fix details to become champions

The Indiana Fever blowing out the Chicago Sky was a testament to the roster construction they undertook this past offseason. The points deficit, though, had more to do with the Sky’s struggles on offense and defense rather than just the Fever’s improved game.

The 70% new roster still needs to play regularly to reach their potential. There were times when the offense stalled, which forced head coach Stephanie White to resort to the tried and tested pick and roll combination of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.

When that scheme was rolling, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull came into the fold, which helped them steamroll the equally all-new Sky. Natasha Howard used her experience to place herself in scoring positions, but DeWanna Bonner needs some time to adjust to their pace.

Once they get dialed in, the Fever has the potential to become a juggernaut. At the same time, they haven’t faced top defenses yet. Maybe the upcoming two games against the Atlanta Dream can give them a better idea of where they stand.
