Caitlin Clark has not missed a game since she started as a freshman for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Even with the Indiana Fever, she has started every single game up until now. After suffering from a quad injury, the 23-year-old was forced to miss the first game of her adult life.

Her streak of non-stop games ended after she struggled with a strain in her left quad. Initial diagnosis pegs her to miss at least two weeks of competitive basketball. But considering how competitive she is, she still tried to get some shots off.

She stopped only after her veteran teammates asked her to take it easy. It is important that she rest and follow the trainer’s plans. Today, her team was to travel to Baltimore to take on the Washington Mystics. They had to move their game to the CFG Bank Arena to cater to the demand for tickets.

Usually, players nursing an injury stay back with their team. But Caitlin Clark could not leave her teammates’ side and traveled with them to Washington. When she arrived at the arena, she was captured holding a baby in her hands.

That was Zayn, son of Fever assistant coaches Austin Kelly and Karima Christmas-Kelly. Clark is good with children as she usually looks after her coach’s kids and those of her teammates, or spends time with them. This time, she handled baby Zayn until it was time to move on to the court.

Caitlin Clark becomes part-time Fever camerawoman

During shootaround, Caitlin Clark was sitting on the bench. Then she took out a camera from her jacket and walked around clicking photos of her teammates, coaches, and fans inside CFG Bank Arena. It was later revealed that Clark’s personal photographer, Bri Lewerke, had given the reigning rookie of the year her camera.

Lewerke and Clark are close after capturing her during her breakout years at Iowa, and followed her to Indiana. Clark has also used Lewerke’s camera in her rookie season to capture her teammates. That time she was playing, but this time, she thought of using the time off to spend refining her other hobby.

It seems the 23-year-old was trying to keep herself busy. Not being able to practice or play is hard enough for someone as competitive as the Iowa native. But watching her teammates get ready was probably too much, which could be why she preferred to click photos and pass her time rather than sulk due to the injury.

Caitlin Clark watches her Fever lose to the Mystics

When Caitlin Clark was coming into her rookie season, some of the naysayers questioned if she had a move other than her logo threes. Even some of her peers questioned if there was anything to her game that warranted that much attention.

But she ended up breaking the single-season assist record. She could have racked up more had her teammates understood the pace behind her passes, or if she had anticipated that experienced WNBA opponents would sniff out her passes.

She is the offensive engine of the Indiana Fever, and without her playmaking and scoring, they were expected to struggle. On top of that, this Fever core is new and still needs time to acclimate to their style of play.

The Washington Mystics, on the other hand, are playing like they have known each other for ages. That saw them come back from a 1st-quarter deficit and build a lead over the remaining 3 quarters. Eventually, the lack of Clark’s scoring and playmaking was evident, as the Fever lost the game 77-83.

They now have at least three more games to play before Caitlin Clark returns. She will miss the game against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, but should be in line to return to play against the Atlanta Dream on June 10th.
