Caitlin Clark thankful to Indiana Fever teammate Aliyah Boston for helping her through tough WNBA rookie year

When Caitlin Clark first stepped onto the WNBA court, she was struggling to get skills to turn into wins for her Indiana Fever. In fact, many were critical of the lack of understanding between Fever players. That criticism took a different turn when Clark was on the receiving end of a lot of negative attention. Now mid-way through the season, and the Fever winning games, Clark talked about her teammate Aliyah Boston and her influence.

Fever beat reporter Matthew Byrne asked about the Clark’s blossoming friendship with Boston. To which the NCAA all-time leading scorer said:

I think AB's like always somebody that's gonna have her teammates back. She just wants the best for every single person. She’s been somebody that’s been really helpful throughout my rookie year, obviously having gone through it just a year ago. I think you can tell our chemistry is really coming along and a lot of that has just been developed through games. But I’m really thankful for her.
Caitlin Clark told Matthew Bryne

Clark acknowledged Boston helping her through all the rough initial days of coming into the WNBA, something Aliyah has experienced herself last year.

This was evident in the initial weeks of Caitlin Clark’s WNBA career. In between a drubbing, Clark was visibly upset. It was Aliyah Boston who walked alongside her all the way to the locker room and tried to calm Clark down.

Fast forward to the halfway mark, the duo has blossomed into friends, even doing TikTok videos together. More importantly, the rookie plays with a calmer approach that did not exist in the initial days. All of this is resulting a major improvement in team performance as well.

Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston focus of Fever offense

The first pair of players to click in a basketball team is the combination of a point guard and center or forward. Caitlin Clark is the point guard, and Aliyah Boston, the center for the Indiana Fever. Therefore, head coach Christie Sides bringing in the pick and roll game has helped the two play better with every game.

Now these two lead the offensive gameplan. With fellow forward NaLyssa Smith has also joined in the fun whenever Boston has an off game, thereby spreading the offensive load. Add to that veteran star Kelsey Mitchell‘s scoring, and the Fever have won 8 of their last 13 games. A stark contrast when considering they lost 8 of their 9 first games.

Coach Christie Sides is still experimenting with the starting lineup. As the 5th player is still not set. Once that is done, it is possible that the Indiana Fever could power ahead and clinch a playoff spot. Then maybe they would look back at the friendship between Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston as the starting point.
