Rivals Caitlin Clark assisting Angel Reese on a layup during WNBA All-Star game against Team USA goes viral
The WNBA’s All-Star weekend was sold out. A response from fans as two of the most famous rookies in its history were about to team up in their first All-Star game. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were to let go of their rivalry to play alongside some of the best players in the league against Team USA. But no one expected them to connect on a play.
The video which has now gone viral shows Caitlin Clark dribbling up the court with the ball in her hands. Then when she noticed Reese’s streak to the rim, she hesitated near the three-point line to create separation from Sabrina Ionescu. That gave her an open lane to drive to the rim. Seeing this develop, Brittney Griner moved towards Clark to defend a possible layup. But as that created space behind, Clark dished the ball to Angel Reese who scored on a layup.
As the rivals ran back, they dapped each other up with outstretched hands sending the arena into a frenzy. The two have locked horns five times so far in their young careers. Two of them were during their time in college when their rivalry started. Then the three regular season games so far.
But there should be many more to come since both ply their trade in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference. Both the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky vying for playoff spots. This was the first ever officially recorded connection between the two. But Reese is already looking forward to the future as teammates.
Angel Reese excited to play with Caitlin Clark in the future
If both the rookies make the All-Star game every year, then at least for that one time in a season, they will play as teammates. Then there is also the possibility of making the Olympics. That is what Angel Reese emphasized when talking to the commentators while sitting on the bench.
It’s so cool, when she gets the ball, I’m running to look for the ball because I know she’s gonna throw it. She’s been great to play with. The future we’ve going to be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully in 4 years we’ll be Olympians together.
Angel Reese at the All-Star game
If they continue to play the way they have been doing so far, it will be difficult to keep them off of future Olympic teams. More so, if they continue to develop into superstars.
Reese knows this is the start of something special. Two rivals whose battles have brought unprecedented levels of eyeballs to the WNBA. At the same time, their teaming up brings a different level of respect and camaraderie that is unheard of.
If the two do end up making the Olympic team in the future, women’s basketball could gear up to another level. Now all they need to do is to continue developing their game to ensure the selection committee does not have second guesses.
