Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese

This WNBA season is in a whirlwind of a situation. Not only are some teams jostling for playoff positions, but some players are fighting to stay relevant. Rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are not in that second position as they are leading the Rookie of the Year ranks. With both of them setting records every time they take to the floor, the debate has left analysts and fans divided.

Analyst Nick Wright was a guest speaker on The Herd. When asked about the Rookie of the Year race, Wright shared his take.

Angel Reese in a lot of years would be the rookie of the year, she set the all-time rebounding record. Don't say, let's just have it via a tie, call them co-rookies of the year. Angel Reese is having an A-/A rookie season. And Caitlin Clark is having arguably the greatest rookie season in the history of the league. Caitlin Clark should get every single Rookie of the Year vote.
Nick Wright said

He was livid when suggesting that analysts and former WNBA players are trying to create an agenda. They should instead disregard the comparison as Caitlin Clark is leagues ahead of Angel Reese.

Nick Wright also questioned the basketball knowledge and outlook of former players trying to disregard what the former Iowa Hawkeyes star is doing on the court. In fact, he feels that those suggesting that co-ROTY awards should be given out to Reese and Clark are undermining what the Indiana Fever rookie has done so far.

He feels if Angel Reese had come in any other year, she would have undoubtedly been the front-runner for the award. But comparatively, Clark is just that much better and should be unanimously voted as the winner.

Caitlin Clark wins back-to-back Player of the Week awards

Angel Reese won a Player of the Week award earlier this season. Since then, Caitlin Clark has turned on the jets as she is continuously destroying records in almost every game she plays in. That turn of form had netted her the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week.

This week, she was again the recipient of that award. Her 24.3 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists per game were only behind West Player of the Week and MVP frontrunner A’ja Wilson. These numbers are good enough to propel the Indiana Fever rookie into the MVP race.

But it has come a bit too late to make any sort of dent in Wilson’s MVP case. Maybe she can continue this streak into next season and be in the running. Before that, if she continues at this pace, it all looks likely that Caitlin Clark will wrap up the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
