Caitlin Clark finally returned after her second 5-game absence this season. After overcoming her groin injury, the 23-year-old was cleared to play against her best friend, Kate Martin, and the Golden State Valkyries.

Before returning, Clark was subjected to another controversy. One was when an ESPN analyst suggested the Indiana Fever were better off without her. Their Commissioner’s Cup win as well as the dominating over the Aces were proof.

Then after they lost to the lowly Los Angeles Sparks, those suggestions went out of the water. Fever fans believed the superstar point guard would help the team start a winning run. In the first quarter against the Valkyries, their hopes seemed to be coming true.

However, in the next 3 quarters, the away team throttled the Fever, and went on a scoring run to win the game, 80-61. During this embarrassing loss, the home team looked lost, and their body language depicted a sense of discomfort.

But what fans focused on were two primary problems. One was that Caitlin Clark was playing out of position, as an off ball guard. That seemed to mess with their rotation. Then fans focused on another issue.

That of the Iowa native’s constant battles with officials. In one sequence, she was dribbling down the right side, and stopped to gain separation. However, her right foot tripped on Tiffany Hayes‘ left foot and she fell.

When the two tried to keep hold of the ball, the officials called a jump ball. But Clark was furious at the officials for not calling a foul when she was tripped. This attitude seemed to tick off fans.

Fans not liking Caitlin Clark’s constant battle with officials

Basketball fans know Caitlin Clark has a penchant for having a battle of words with officials. She has been doing it since college, and it sometimes tends to infuriate even those close to her. In this instance, it was the fans who believed she was pushing for something that was not hers to begin with.

She was accidentally tripped. Therefore, it was not a foul per se. In her attempts to try and coax the officials for a foul, fans believe she is approaching the game the wrong way. Fans want her to read the game and focus on first playing well.

Then, if they still lose, she can talk to officials, or about them, just like how her rival Angel Reese did a couple of games ago. Basketball fans want her to first do the talking with her performances, which were severely lacking in today’s game. Check out examples of those reactions below.

The Indiana Fever lost embarrassingly to a team they could have won against. It seems something was off throughout this game. However, fans hope Caitlin Clark takes it upon herself to lead her team on a winning run of games.

Caitlin Clark and Fever have series of tough games next

After their win over the Las Vegas Aces, the Indiana Fever could have used the next few games to build up momentum and confidence. The last two losses now have pinned them at 7th in the standings, but crucially, they are under .500.

For a team that was hoping to compete for a title, being under .500 at this stage of the season is not ideal. It is not the worst, but their next few games could pose a bigger obstacle in their efforts to climb the table.

They will next face 5 playoff teams over the remainder of this month. Those 5 games out of 8 could cost them a lot of ground on the leaderboard. Therefore, this team has to dig deep if it wants to hang around with the winning teams and make a charge post the All-Star break.
