Despite missing most of the season due to injury, Caitlin Clark continues to help the WNBA draw millions of fans. She makes it a point to be courtside for every game, so that those fans who have spent their time and money get their due.

She understands that this is what superstars in any league do, and has been grateful towards those fans for coming to games. Every game the Indiana Fever play on the road feels like a home game.

The impact has helped the league in its entirety. All teams are enjoying the interest from those new fans Clark brought in, and their ticket and merchandise sales, along with the viewership numbers, confirm that.

Despite all those advantages, there is still some pettiness from other players. For instance, she was ranked 9th best among guards in the league, despite performing similarly to her electric rookie campaign.

Along with the physicality displayed towards her, some fans have started to question why those players are showing jealousy, especially when they are all benefiting from it. 6-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Bob Cousy had a slightly more direct message.

She’s had a tremendous impact on that league and their earning potential. They should be kissing the ground she walks on, not trying to foul her and get her out of the game.

The recently turned 97-year-old believes the rest of the WNBA has to acknowledge Caitlin Clark’s impact, and take it easy on her. When she is not playing, the league is losing 50% of its viewers.

Therefore, the players should take it easy instead of fouling her that much. He believes that is the only way she can avoid injuries and help grow the sport with her play.

Bob Cousy believes Caitlin Clark has done a good job promoting the WNBA

Bob Cousy has seen the NBA grow exponentially to become one of the most popular sporting leagues in the world. When The Boston Globe‘s Dan Shaughnessy asked if he watches the WNBA, the Boston Celtics legend replied:

It’s a saleable product and (Caitlin) Clark’s done a really good job selling it. It’s enjoyable. My son-in-law is from Indiana, and he’s a Clark fan. She’s exceptional.

The Hall of Famer’s answer indicates that he has seen Caitlin Clark organically grow the WNBA and has done a stellar job as its frontwoman. His logic is based on how the NBA has grown on the back of elite superstars whose fame transcended the sport.

Fever upgrades Caitlin Clark’s injury status

The Indiana Fever were turning a corner when it came to performances without Caitlin Clark. However, their momentum has faced a major obstacle after both substitute point guards suffered season-ending injuries.

After their win over the Chicago Sky, the franchise went out and signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims to fill one of the hardship spots. There is still one spot open, but if a player is signed to that opening, the Fever will have to waive them when their leading superstar returns.

It is possible that the 23-year-old returns soon. As per Rotowire, her status was upgraded from ‘OUT’ to Game Time Decision. This means the Iowa native is on track to make her return to playing basketball.

Up until last week, many expected her to return by the end of August. But these two injuries seem to have forced the issue, and she could be fast-tracked to return earlier than originally planned.

It could be as soon as the end of this week, or even the start of next week. The Fever want to continue fighting towards their goal, and for that, they need their most important player back.
