Earlier today, Caitlin Clark missed her 11th game of the season. She sat courtside watching her Indiana Fever take on the New York Liberty. The point guard completed an MRI and is awaiting results. The hope is that she can play in the All-Star weekend.

The last time she injured her groin, she missed 5 games. The idea was to recover completely and then return to action. However, her eyes welling up after this second instance has fans wondering if she will miss more than just 5 games.

Clark was expected to build off her stellar rookie season after making it to 4th in the MVP race as well as earning the Rookie of the Year award. She also set records along the way and earned individual accolades.

All of that culminated in Clark being named the WNBA’s Best Player at the 2025 ESPY Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Since she was not going to be there, ESPN’s WNBA broadcasters gathered outside the venue, broke the news.

I see exponential growth of the game. She brings eyes to the game, so that the next generation can come out and thrive. A dynamic player, exciting to watch. Her villain origin story has started, and she loves to play into it, and the fans eat it right up.

The analyst’s words seem to suggest that Caitlin Clark is embracing the role of a villain in the WNBA. It might seem bizarre for Ari Chambers to propose that. However, considering that the rest of the league has displayed enough proof of petty jealousy, she might have a point.

Sheryl Swoopes opines on ‘nastiness’ surrounding Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark might not be doing anything intentionally. She is the most active trash-talker in the league. That seems to have antagonized her peers whenever she is on the court. Coupled with her fame and the money that comes with it, the jealousy has resulted in body checks and bumps.

Last season, the Fever guard gave enough proof of her qualities as a basketball player. However, Sheryl Swoopes believes it is the other factors surrounding the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year that make it difficult for others.

The best part of her game to me is the passing. Her ability to see (expletive) before everybody else sees it, she gets the ball where it needs to be. I have zero hate for her. I appreciate her game. What I don’t appreciate is the ugly nastiness that comes with Caitlin Clark.

Sheryl Swoopes said on Gil’s Arena

What the Hall of Famer was referring to was those Caitlin Clark fans who go on berating other players whenever something bad happens to the Indiana Fever guard. Swoopes might be referring to the nasty threats some racist fans made to some players.

Then there was the problem this season where fans blamed opposing players for causing injuries to Clark. Those injuries were generally caused by stress on her body. However, that has not stopped fans from claiming Clark is being targeted.

Hall of Famer hopes Caitlin Clark learns how to play with groin injury

Caitlin Clark is now doubtful to participate in the All-Star weekend set to take place in her place of work in Indianapolis. It is the biggest event of the year for the WNBA, and they need the city’s most famous athlete to participate.

I had that injury. I was heavily taped around my thigh. I can still feel that injury linger because I don’t know that it ever goes away. You just learn to manage and play with it.

Lisa Leslie said on CBS Sports

Lisa Leslie used her own experience to suggest that a groin injury never truly goes away. The only way the Fever guard recovers is if she gets a lot of rest. Since that is not possible during the season, the Hall of Famer hopes Clark can learn how to play through it.
