In Short
  • Caitlin Clark aims to lead the Indiana Fever to the 2026 championship after a challenging previous season.
  • Fans are upset with the Fever's selection of Raven Johnson in the WNBA Draft, citing her limited shooting ability.
  • The choice has sparked controversy due to Johnson's past rivalry with Clark during their college careers.

Entering her third season in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark wants to fix the wrongs from last season and power her Indiana Fever to fight for the 2026 championship.

It was their goal last season, but injuries stopped her from having any meaningful impact. If not for her struggles with the soft tissues in her body, maybe she could have helped them get over the final hurdle.

That hurdle was eventual champion Las Vegas Aces, a team that has superstars in its starting five and important role players to bank on.

Caitlin Clark hoped the Fever would not just bring back most of her teammates from last season, but also find improvements both in free agency and in the draft.

From the former, the franchise managed to make some potentially impactful additions. Monique Billings has experience playing alongside supermax signee Kelsey Mitchell in Unrivaled and with Clark during their time on Team USA.

They also signed Ty Harris to back up their lead point guard, while also bringing in defensive enforcer Myisha Hines-Allen. The franchise did lose some players, but these additions were an impressive haul.

Then came the 2026 WNBA Draft, and fans wanted to see what the organization would do to add more impactful pieces. With the 10th pick, they selected Raven Johnson, a feisty defender who also can handle playmaking.

Fever fans flame Fever for not thinking about Caitlin Clark

The Indiana Fever selected Raven Johnson, probably on the logic that her defense will be crucial down the stretch. On top of that, she has won championships with South Carolina, one of them alongside Fever center Aliyah Boston.

However, fans pointed out that the organization did not think about Caitlin Clark, as Johnson was the sole reason her beef with Angel Reese exists.

In the 2023 NCAA Final Four, after Clark and her Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the unbeaten South Carolina, she taunted Johnson with the ‘you can’t see me’ celebration. Reese reciprocated that in the finals, and the rest is history.

On top of that, fans felt that the 5’9″ guard did not have a reliable shot. That is why fans took issue with this selection, mentioning that the Fever had other options they could choose from. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Fans are also aware that Angel Reese has been hyping up Raven Johnson throughout this past season. That is why they wondered why the organization did not keep Clark’s comfort at the forefront.

Caitlin Clark almost forced Raven Johnson to quit basketball

While Raven Johnson was not the direct reason for Caitlin Clark’s beef with Angel Reese, the Indiana Fever superstar did play a part in the ‘hate’ the South Carolina star faced in college.

I got bashed, I got bullied, I got called all these things that I wasn’t. Aka, like a monkey… I wanted to quit basketball at that time.

Raven Johnson told I Am Athlete

The 23-year-old was referring to when the Hawkeyes guard waved her off in that Final Four matchup as she was standing near the three-point line. The then-Iowa superstar also did not want to defend her, apparently confident that Johnson could not shoot from distance.

That led the Atlanta native to go into a shell and rethink her future in basketball. In a professional environment, those battles are supposed to be forgotten, as there is a new goal in place.

Aliyah Boston also mentioned that she beefed with Clark about that loss when the latter first arrived in Indianapolis. But now, they are inseparable. Maybe the three-time All-Star center can mediate between Raven Johnson and Caitlin Clark.
