WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark has Michael Jordan esque drive

Caitlin Clark did not just become one of the best players in the WNBA due to sheer skill. Her drive and competitiveness were evident when she worked on her game during the Olympics break whereas others were resting. Eventually, her hard work came to fruition when the Indiana Fever reached the playoffs.

The 23-year-old has been relentless during this offseason. She initially prioritized rest but has been working out at the Indiana Fever facilities as she looks to add to her repertoire of skills. The superstar has clarified in the past that she wants to be the best basketball player.

That could be what is driving her to develop her game. She could have been a part of Unrivaled League and earned in seven figures. But she chose to focus on the long game. All of this stems from that drive to become the best.

That drive though, is not just restricted to basketball. The Iowa native has had this competitive spirit from a very young age. In a teaser trailer for the next episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, host David Letterman asked about that drive.

When I’m just playing like a casual card game with my family or my friends. Everybody hates me by the end of the night. And I’m like, ‘Oh great, I ruined Christmas’.

Caitlin Clark said

The Fever star added that she used to try and be like her older brother, Blake. So, one day when Blake Clark took the training wheels off his bike, his sister and the then future WNBA phenom, would force their parents to take her training wheels off too. That Michael Jordan esque drive is pushing her to the top.

Caitlin Clark’ next stop, Netflix

When Time Magazine announced Caitlin Clark as their Athlete of the Year, it blew fans away. She joined LeBron James as the only basketball stars to get that award. However, not everyone was happy about this milestone.

Now, her interview with David Letterman will stream on Netflix. Considering its global reach, this will help elevate her fame to the next level. Some in the media wanted the league to take her to the Paris Olympics to build off her fame.

That opportunity was missed, and some media members felt the WNBA and Team USA lost a golden opportunity. Now through Netflix, they get another chance once the world listens to her speak about her journey. This will lead to more fans tuning in to watch her second season.

That means, the growth rate the WNBA experienced last season could continue. Already teams have had to shift venues to accommodate the rising demand for tickets. Now broadcasters have also lined up 93% of her games. All of this will only go on to help increase the sport’s imprint.

Clark should have own TV package

When broadcasters earmarked 41 of the 44 games the Indiana Fever will play next season for national coverage, it raised eyebrows. Some believe the league did not do right by the rest of the teams. Whereas some believe the Fever along with Caitlin Clark have shown they are box office.

If I was the WNBA, I would have considered a separate television package to a network on just Caitlin Clark games. I would have had two packages, the WNBA package and then a separate, let’s say 15-to-18 game Caitlin Clark package.

Colin Cowherd said

This was veteran analyst Colin Cowherd, who said on The Herd that he believes the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year has enough fame to demand for her own TV package. From all the ticket and merchandise sales and television ratings, it is evident fans want more of her. He believes she could cash in on that demand.
