When Caitlin Clark rose to fame, she attracted millions of fans to both college basketball as well as the WNBA. The Indiana Fever superstar has become the beacon for women’s sports worldwide, and knows how to engage with fans.

One particular fan, Michael Lewis, was sending hundreds of threats and s**ually explicit messages to Clark from December 12, 2024, to January 11, 2025, as per TMZ. The 55-year-old had moved from his hometown in Texas to Indianapolis to be closer to the point guard.

He believed he was in an imaginary relationship with the 23-year-old and used to drive around Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which he labeled as Clark’s home. After his arrest on January 12th, investigators believed he would face up to 6 years in prison.

Before the sentencing, Lewis did get on the nerves of the presiding judge, but claimed it was due to nervousness. He even tried to explain how the judicial system was painting him as a criminal, even though X did not block or delete his tweets to Caitlin Clark.

Eventually, he pleaded guilty after striking a deal with prosecutors. On one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor count of harassment, the judge sentenced him to spend 2.5 years in prison.

He was also ordered to avoid trying to establish contact with Clark. The judge also ordered him to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, or any property or events conducted by the Indiana Fever or the Pacers.

Fans not happy with prison sentence term handed to Caitlin Clark’s stalker

Basketball fans and other fans in general believe this stalker, Michael Lewis, was let off with a small punishment. They believe 2.5 years is not enough to punish someone who was incessantly disturbing the life of Caitlin Clark.

Admittedly, he did not attempt to kidnap her or approach her directly. But fans believe he has displayed enough psychological problems to pose a threat once he is released from prison. They had hoped for the judge to understand the gravity of the situation and hand him a longer sentence.

Even though the Indiana Fever star has started to hire security around her, knowing that her stalker will be out in the open could become distressing. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment with this sentencing. Examples of those reactions are below:

By the time Michael Lewis is released from prison, Caitlin Clark might do everything necessary to avoid a repeat of those incidents. Even then, it is unnerving for anyone to know that a known stalker is out in the open.

Clark is out injured for the third time this season. This time, the Indiana Fever are taking it slow and have not set a timeline for her return. Since their next game is a couple of days away, the 23-year-old decided to take time off and do something good for the community.

She headed back to her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, and teamed up with McCombs Middle School to open a basketball court. The Fever star also handed out backpacks and school supplies to 500 children.

The Caitlin Clark Foundation has been working overtime, trying to provide supplies to as many schools and children as possible. She has already opened some basketball courts in Des Moines and is planning to expand to the rest of Iowa.

Considering how big a superstar she is, the students of McCombs Middle School screamed when she was called on to the podium. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year is building a legacy for herself right from this age.
