Angel Reese

Angel Reese took the WNBA and the basketball world by storm as she broke and created numerous records. Her rivalry with Indiana’s Fever Caitlin Clark dominated the airwaves and gave the WNBA the much-needed visibility. The duo remains in the battle for the Rookie of the Year honors. The accolade will surely go one way due to the recent developments.

Unfortunately, fans have seen the end of her reign as the ‘Queen of Rebounds’ as she made a shocking announcement. Her watch has ended as a result of an injury. Her team had announced that she had sustained a wrist injury following the win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Reese also commented on the situation soon after.

What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3… Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed… I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury… You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon!

What a sad turn of events this may be for fans of the Barbie Queen and the Chicago Sky fans. However, on the bright side, she ended her season with a bang. Her performance against the Los Angeles Sparks ended her team’s seven-game losing streak. Reese had another double-double of 24 points, a game-high, and 12 rebounds.

The Sky are currently placed 8th on the WNBA overall standings and have their work cut out without the rookie sensation available. Their next game comes against the Dallas Wings in what is billed as a must-win game. Only time will tell if the team can win without Reese. Meanwhile, her injury has truly become a talking point across social media.

Fans react as Angel Reese’s season is cut short by injury

This wasn’t in the cards in the historic battle for the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year. Unfortunately, humans’ lack of immortality prevailed as Angel Reese suffered a season-ending injury. It’s fair to say that she won’t also be winning the Rookie of the Year as her fierce rival, Caitlin Clark, now has the better chance.

The news has led to a frenzy on social media as fans have come to have their say on the matter. One user on X wrote: “Well, now Caitlin gets handed the MVP on a silver platter.”

What other fans on social media had to say:

Sadly, Reese will miss the final six games of the campaign. The silver lining is that she has the chance to end the season with a record for the most single-season rebounds by a WNBA player, which is astonishing for a rookie. Her season ends with her averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
