Cal Raleigh finally looked like his 2025 version on Monday. The Seattle Mariners star set a franchise record with a historic 3-home run game against the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies.

Last season, Raleigh broke several records. He became the first catcher to hit 50 home runs and finished the season with a league-leading 60 home runs.

Despite that, he missed out on the MVP award. New York Yankees star Aaron Judge was voted as the winner of the American League MVP, which led to several debates on social media.

However, this season has not been a good one for Raleigh and the Mariners. He has struggled at the plate this year and embarked on a long 0-for-38 streak between April and May.

On Monday, the Mariners welcomed the Phillies to T-Mobile Park. The NL East side arrived in Seattle on a 9-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the hosts suffered another huge defeat as the Chicago Cubs crushed them 19-2 in the series finale.

After falling 1-0 in the first inning, the Mariners answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the frame. A 3-run home run by Julio Rodriguez was followed by a 2-run home run from Raleigh.

The Mariners were leading 5-2 when Raleigh hit his 2nd 2-run home run of the game. In the bottom of the 5th inning, “Big Dumper” extended the lead to 7-2 with a shot in the right field against Zack Wheeler.

In the 7th inning, he crushed his 3rd home run of the game. A solo shot into right field flew just above the reach of Bryce Harper for his 3rd homer of the night.

He thus became the first Mariners star to hit 3 home runs at T-Mobile Park. Since the park opened in 1999 (then called Safeco Field), only once had a player smashed 3 home runs in a game here. That was Victor Martinez for the Cleveland Indians (Guardians) in 2004.

In Mariners history, he became just the 13th player to hit 3 home runs in a game. Raleigh is just the 2nd catcher after his current manager, Dan Wilson, to do so.

He also tied Jay Buhner and Edgar Martinez for the 2nd most multi-home run games in franchise history at 22, behind only Ken Griffey Jr., who had 40.

Cal Raleigh’s form has started to turn in recent weeks

Cal Raleigh has been a shadow of his former self in the 2026 season. The catcher has found it difficult to get going and has been left frustrated with himself. His form, however, has started to turn in recent weeks.

For the season, Raleigh has a batting average of just .167. Before the historic performance on Monday, he was batting .159.

These 3 home runs took his season tally from 14 to 17. He still has fewer hits this year (58) than home runs (60) last year. Following a 4-1 loss against the New York Yankees earlier this month, he shouldered the blame for the team’s slump and admitted he was not good.

It’s not good. We’re not playing well. That starts with me. I’m awful.

Cal Raleigh said after Mariners’ 4-1 loss

In the last 15 games, he has shown signs of improvement. He has batted with a .206 average, hit 5 home runs and has 8 RBIs while having 12 walks in 44 at-bats. In the last 7 games, he has hit .333 with 4 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 walks in 18 at-bats.

The Mariners would be hoping this turn in form helps them as well. At the moment, they are 63-69 for the season, 3 games behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West standings. Given the form of their rivals, the Mariners still fancy their chances of winning the division.
