Caleb Williams concluded his second season in Chicago with one more interception than in his rookie year. That being said, Williams led the Bears to the NFC North crown with an 11-6 finish. It set up a home wildcard showdown against bitter rivals the Green Bay Packers, who finished second with a 9-7 record.
The Packers ended the first quarter with a four-point lead as Williams struggled to connect with his receivers under freezing conditions inside Soldier Field. He had multiple fumbles and even lost the ball once, showcasing the playoff jitters.
On 4th and 6 inside the Packers’ territory, Williams tossed an off-target pass meant for rookie Luther Burden III. The loose ball was intercepted by the Packers cornerback Carrington Valentine. Shortly after the interception, cameras caught Williams throwing a fit inside the Bears dugout. It looked like Williams wasn’t too pleased with the rookie receiver from Missouri for running the wrong route.

Caleb Williams throws his second interception
The Packers didn’t waste much to capitalize on the Bears’ misery. Quarterback Jordan Love, who started after missing the final two games of the regular season, threw three touchdowns in quick succession. The Packers took a 21-6 lead in the third quarter.

Williams wasn’t having a good game. First year head coach Ben Johnson drew up a pass play instead of running the ball on fourth and one. The Packers defense sniffed Johnson’s strategy and blitzed Williams hard. It worked. Williams panicked and looped the ball aimlessly in the air before a Packers linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper picked it off.

Fortunately for the home crowd, the Packers failed to make the Bears pay for their mistakes.
The Bears pull off an upset win over the Packers
Love and the Packers had done everything right up until the Williams second interception. Coincidentally, it was Williams’s first two-interception game since throwing a couple in a week three defeat to the Colts in 2024 (more than a year ago).
However, Williams didn’t have the luxury of learning from Johnson back then. He is an improved player in every sense. He had the most game-winning drives of any quarterback in 2025, and the city of Chicago needed another clutch performance from him on Saturday night. Williams delivered.
The USC graduate kicked off the comeback five minutes into the fourth quarter. He set up veteran running back D’Andre Swift for a six-yard touchdown. Love increased the gap four minutes later. Rookie Matthew Golden caught a 23-yard touchdown pass, but that was the Packers’ final scoring drive.
Williams orchestrated a ten-play drive that chipped away a couple of minutes of the clock before connecting with Olamide Zaccheaus for a touchdown. Even though the Bears had reduced the gap, the NFL Next Gen Stats revealed that they only had a 25% chance of winning the game.
From 6:51 in the second quarter to 2:59 in the fourth, the Bears' win probability never exceeded 25%, reaching a minimum of 3.0%.

Fortunately, the Bears had the best fourth quarter (in 2025) QB under center. After the Packers turned the ball over on downs, Johnson made a smart move that caught the Green Bay secondary off guard. On first and ten, Williams heaved a long ball to a wide open receiver DJ Moore for a touchdown. The game ended after Love fumbled on the second last play and then threw an incompletion on the following pass.
Williams finished with 24 completions, 361 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions along with 4 carries for 20 yards. Moore caught 6 passes for 64 yards and the game-winning TD. Rookie tight end Colston Loveland had 8 receptions for 137 yards.
The Bears won 31-27. It was the Bears’ first postseason victory since beating the Seattle Seahawks in the 2010 NFC divisional round game.
