Caleb Williams wouldn’t mind playing with Micah Parsons. The Dallas Cowboys edge rusher is in the final year of his rookie contract, and Jerry Jones has remained quiet about an extension.

However, Jones woke up on Monday and decided it was time to extend at least one key player’s stay at Arlington. The Cowboys signed multiple times Pro Bowl wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a massive four-year $136 million deal.

While Parsons has time and again said he wasn’t worried about his extension because his focus is solely on winning the Super Bowl, many fans think he might be enticed to change scenery if the Cowboys don’t give him a new deal. A Caleb Williams fan page on X shared a post with Parsons wearing a Chicago Bears jersey, which Williams himself retweeted.

Their argument was the Cowboys’ dwindling salary cap. Jones’ team officially entered the 2024 season with $29 million in cap space before Lamb’s extension. He still had one year in his contract remaining—$17.991 million of base salary. However, they originally had $11 million in cap space, but it ramped up to $29 million because he was placed on IR (injured reserve). So, the Cowboys still have a generous amount in their pocket for the moment.

Micah Parsons isn’t worried about his contract

The 2x NFL Defensive Player of the Year runner-up missed the OTA because he was traveling the world, but came back in the nick of time to attend camp at Oxnard. Parsons was asked about his contract each time he faced the media, and on every occasion, he gave the same answer. He wasn’t concerned about it.

While appearing on a segment of the Pivot podcast with former NFL player and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, the 25-year-old revealed his focus is only on playing and the money will take care of itself.

I’m going to play ball. All that’s going to come. I’m going to play ball. People be forgetting like why we started the game. You wasn’t thinking about no million-dollar contracts when you were five.

It seems the Cowboys will not make any more extensions right now, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter during Monday’s episode of SportsCenter.

The urgency [to sign a new deal] helped them today with CeeDee Lamb, but it has not really been there, nor should it be there with Dak Prescott nor Micah Parsons. So those two situations continue to linger on.
Adam Schefter revealed as per Bleacher Report

Next year, they would have to deal with quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract. Prescott has a cap hit of $60 million, and the Cowboys have only two choices in their hands. Either pay him record money or make him a free agent because they can neither release nor tag him.

The Cowboys don’t exactly have the greatest of depths in the linebacker spot. If it came down to choosing between Parsons or Prescott, the bookmakers would pick the edge rusher over the 3x-time pro bowler.
