As Caleb Williams stepped on the international soil of London for a week 6 match, he proved why he was drafted as the first overall pick. Since the season didn’t start well for the Chicago Bears with two losses in the first three weeks, the quarterback became subject to scrutiny but after the stunning victory of 35-16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he shut the mouth of his critics for good.
With three consecutive victories, Williams enlisted his team among the true contenders of the playoffs and improved to a 4-2 season standing. Surrounded by a crowd of 61,182 counts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 22-year-old posted a historic outing by completing 23 out of his 29 passes for 226 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, along with a completion rate of 79.3%– becoming one of the very few Bears’ signal-callers to do so at the London stadium.
Since the start of the game, the quarterback took the lead and concluded the first half with a 14-3 lead by throwing two touchdown passes to tight end Cole Kmet. He didn’t let the momentum break and posted two more touchdowns in connection with veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen on the first two possessions of the second half.
His phenomenal outing has received immense praise from fans all over social media, as one wrote, “He has arrived,” and another praised the young signal-caller as the “best rookie quarterback.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
Building the first three-game winning streak after the 2020 season, the Bears are now headed to a bye week before being hosted by the Washington Commanders, 4-1 led by second-overall pick Jayden Daniels in week 8.
Caleb Williams earns teammates’ respect following strong comeback
Previously against the Carolina Panthers, the No. 1 overall pick astounded everyone with 304 yards and two touchdowns in week 5. Despite the rocky start, the way Williams bounced back with his team is being well-appreciated especially by his teammates as tight end Cole Kmet showered high praise for his leadership skill during his interview with Stacey Dales.
Though he admitted that the Bears offense has been great with the rookie quarterback, the real credit belongs to him for his development into a professional quarterback within just a month playing in the NFL. The offense of the Windy City might not be at its peak like everyone expected, but they sure have shown potential to transform into the greatest.
