Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Chicago Bears did everything possible to strengthen the team– be it drafting the first overall pick, acquiring veteran talents, or making affirmative adjustments in the coaching staff. However, as they stand at a 1-2 season record, all they wonder about is being too hasty in signing their new offensive coordinator.
After the disaster of week 2, the Bears endured another tragic loss at 21-16. While fans were already upset with OC Shane Waldron‘s play calling, this time the star quarterback Caleb Williams appeared to be fed up as he is competitor, who isn’t ready to jeopardize his bright future in the NFL over a coach’s mishaps.
A clip from the Sunday Night Football Matchup is making waves on the internet, where the former USC standout can be clearly seen losing his patience with the Bears offensive coordinator after the play call that missed a deep shot at wide receiver Rome Odunze.
In the video, Williams can be seen walking towards the sideline with his hands in the air questioning the poor play call by Waldron, which eventually resulted in another loss. However, the very next drive resulted in a touchdown. But it’s clear that the rookie realizes what went wrong at that moment, but if Waldron hasn’t, there’s a big chance that the Windy City might consider making another major decision for the team.
Shane Waldron’s risky call highlighted offensive struggles in loss against Colts
The blunder took place on Sunday when the Bears were trying to return to their 37-yard line after they stopped the Colts on 4th down. Running back D’Andre Swift at the time made two runs– one facing 3rd and then on 4th down. At this point in the game, the Bears should have gotten to 1st down to keep the offense moving.
However, instead of doing that, offensive coordinator Waldron called for a deep shot to the 2024 ninth-overall draft pick. It was quite evident at the scene that Odunze is not a feasible option for Williams to complete the play and it ended up badly.
Even though the Bears had time to recover, that one wrong play brought the team to a three-and-out, meanwhile their opponents took the lead at 14-3. The earlier situation could have easily been avoided, but Waldron’s poor planning cost the team a humiliating defeat and dropping to the lowest rank in NFC North.
