Washington Commanders defeated the Chicago Bears in the sixth rookie quarterback matchup between first and second overall in the draft era. The Commanders trailed the Bears till the dying minutes of the game and emerged victorious through a Hail Mary touchdown on Sunday.
Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels were drafted first and second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the much-anticipated matchup between the rookie quarterbacks, Daniels emerged victorious, throwing 21-of-38 passes for 326 yards and one touchdown.
Jayden Daniels was nearly sidelined against the Chicago Bears due to a rib injury from last week’s game against the Panthers. Despite being a game-time decision, the rookie not only started but delivered one of the season’s standout highlights.
In a last-second win, his Hail Mary pass deflected off multiple defenders before landing in the hands of wide receiver Noah Brown in the end zone. Williams watched Daniels’ last-second miracle through the air and into the hands of Noah Brown in the end zone from the sidelines. As soon as the catch was made, Williams turned away in frustration at how things changed in 17 seconds.

While the Commanders celebrated their miracle play, an emotional Williams was spotted walking off the field. There were visible frustrations in his body language as he stormed into the background.
Caleb Williams feels that they could have played better
Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense took off to a slow start, something that has troubled them all season. They went scoreless in the first half, with Williams completing only 4 of 13 passes for 36 yards and rushing seven times for another 36 yards across the first three quarters.
Williams, who had a literal homecoming game in Maryland, admitted to the Chicago Tribune that he could have done better. He admitted his faults in the game, including certain game decisions and errors that lost them the game.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus also expressed that Williams’ rhythm and timing seemed off. Eberflus mentioned that the offense couldn’t find more opportunities to get the ball to their tight ends and running backs.
Chicago Bears will play Arizona Cardinals next week looking to bounce back from Sunday’s last-minute loss.
