Caleb Williams will finally get to work with Ben Johnson. After much speculation, the Chicago Bears are set to hire the former offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell prepared himself to lose both his coordinators, Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn, following their divisional round exit against the Washington Commanders.
Johnson interviewed for the Bears coaching position earlier in January and waited patiently for General Manager Ryan Poles to send him the good news. As per sources, Poles wasn’t too keen on hiring Johnson, but that seems to be settled as the Bears announced finalizing a deal with the 38-year-old.
It didn’t take long for Caleb Williams to make his feelings clear about the news. Hawkeyed fans noticed that Williams liked a post that shared that the Bears were hiring Johnson.

The 2024 first round can now rest a bit easily and will not have to worry about prank calls. A group of kids decided to play a joke on Williams by posing as Johnson and FaceTiming him on his phone. Reports suggested that Williams wasn’t too pleased with the harmless prank.
It makes sense for Williams to be a little on edge after a 5-12 finish in his rookie season which led to the firing of both head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. He can now look forward to working with Johnson.
Ben Johnson has high hopes for Caleb Williams
As both the Lions and Bears are part of the NFC North, Williams played against Johnson’s team twice last year. Even though the Bears lost on both occasions, Williams combined threw for more than 500 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Johnson felt massively impressed by the 23-year-old’s range of passing and arm strength.

Williams ended his first season in the NFL with 351 completions for 3541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
Johnson can work his magic with the USC graduate in a similar way he brought Jared Goff back from the pits of hell. In his three seasons as the offensive coordinator in Detroit, the Lions had a 36-15 record in the regular season with back-to-back NFC North titles.
